Cheating

Uag? Certainly third- or fourth-most annoying poster in the last 24 hours, but he's not normally that bad.

'Big Brother' is exactly what cricket needed to keep the game as 'fair' as possible. It's harder to cheat when a players knows that 5+ cameras are watching him. Also the player is aware that the cricketing world will be critical of his actions should he claim a false catch or other dubious act. Cheating is much more evident in local club matches than at the top level IMO.

One wonders whether players of pre-technology age of cricket were as 'fair' as current players? Or did they simply get away with it and close call catches were never put under such an extreme microscope.

It's a sad question for any sports fan to question whether players only abide by the rules for fear of retribution or 'Noblis oblige' to the game.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I think I saw an extended version of the video where it showed him appealing for it and the batsman possibly being given, though my memory has been hazy lately.
Haha geeze, the umpire at square leg should be sacked if it was indeed given. he was standing right there ffs.

Match-fixing isn't cheating... in the same way that karate-kicking a spectator isn't cheating.

Not really analogous situations to my way of thinking. Big Eric twatting some Palace no-mark wasn't deliberately affecting the outcome of a game (especially as he'd already got his marching orders), Asif & Aamer allegedly bowling no-balls deliberately is. Cantona's effort more akin to wading into the crowd with a cricket bat.

Spot fixing isn't cheating to win, but it is a form of cheating. If one were given to sanctimony I'd say it's bally well cheating the spectators and the game itself.

Cheaters = Individuals,

Recent spot-fixing incident...

Ponting's Sydney catch incident...

Clarke's catch incident...

Strauss's Ashes catch incident...

ABdV's catch incident...

Cullinan's handled the ball incident and then the SHORT pitched attack by Cronje's bowlers...

What are the worst examples of cheating you can remember in the professional game? Would have to say the Afridi pitch incident against England a few years ago is perhaps the worst in my memory.
Jellybeans on the pitch or mints on the ball IMHO.

What we all needed for general CW peace and harmony was the revival of this thread.

How can anyone forget St Dhoni's effort with the bounced catch from Pietersen that landed a foot in front of him?

The entire Indian team should stand condemned for that, well at least the slips cordon, who all were happy to maintain the appeal when they must have seen where it landed. This thing wasnt even close, it bounced so far in front of him it was an insult to common sense to claim it. Unless they weren't, to man, watching the ball. Not sure if St Sachin of the Selective Deafness was there at the time. I like to think he was.
