Chances of a 12 team tournament in 2019?

Shots fired

Tell us what you really think of the ICC, Dhoni?

You know, there's plenty of stuff on my table. We'll let the ICC decide; they should also do a bit of work, so let them sit in their air conditioned room and decide whether the Associate nations need to play in the World Cup or not because that's what they come up with. So the bunch of people will sit in the hall and they'll decide whether or not it's good for cricket.

Always laugh at when administrators and executives get criticised (often legitimately) in sport or by frontline workers in labour intensive business etc. and the "air conditioned" line gets thrown in there. Its just a hilarious and unnecessary add-on

Haha I don't really know how else such a thing would be decided though. I disagree with a lot of ICC decisions but the process of having people sit around a board room to discuss them is a weird gripe.

They should probably switch off those air conditioners and get out of their suits for starters.

Whatever it takes!!!
How about the top 8 teams, seeded by ODI rankings, no pool matches, just straight into the qfs. 7 matches and the tournament takes a week.

Or what we used to call the ICC Knockout? :p

Dalmiya is back, so won't rule out that happening again, maybe instead of the CT...

It should obviously be settled over a game of T20 by the admins... Replace the board room with a modest sized ground (maybe Eden Park :p ) and replace air conditioners by floodlights...

I hear Lara wants 26 teams. Some reckon Sanga wants 30 in Asia but can only manage 18 in England.

why are we so obsessed with compressing it anyway? how do you look at the last two weeks and think "gee, i think we have too much of that"?
I've only had the chance to watch about 5 games where I've actually watched the majority of the match, would suck so much if we were already onto knockouts for mine

On a more serious note Tendulkar probably didn't pull 25 out of his ass. The top 25 would extend out to Netherlands, Kenya, Canada, PNG, Hong Kong, Namibia, Nepal, Uganda, USA, Malaysia, Singapore and good Ol Bermuda.

I'd say that's probably a fair call in terms of teams who aren't Z grade or have potential not to be. But I'd prefer a qualifier tournament of minnows prior to a World Cup if we look at expanding.

This is the best way forward imo. The T20 qualifiers were pretty fun to follow.

The iCC seem to think qualifier tournaments are good ideas, but they also seem to think it's best to have them months in advance in completely opposition conditions. Sigh.

Tendulkar's radical World Cup plan | cricket.com.au

And I thought Crowe's 18-team idea was ambitious.
Wot?

Tendulkar actually seems to have thought this through with suggestions to improve the game of the associates with regular A tours by the Test nations instead of just throwing out a random round number.

Crowe's suggestions were 40 over ODIs, an all-play-all league with 18 teams and best of three semis and final. Those are the sort of suggestions I'd expect to find in the cricinfo comments section or a Lokomotiv post.

Qualifier tournaments on site seems ridiculously churlish though.

That makes 26; Singapore are 26th.

Just below that are Denmark, Italy, Oman and Jersey.

The best line I can see drawn is at 20 or 21 (Canda/Nepal: http://icc-live.s3.amazonaws.com/cm...0e8c6f39-ICC Global Rankings 29 June 2014.pdf ) ... but it's still pretty arbitrary. While I think Tendulkar probably thought it through better than Crowe, I still think it's probably a fairly arbitrary number tbh.

Haha yeah I do agree. I'd have really liked to see the qualifier tournament that got Ireland, Afghanistan, Scotland and the UAE into this tournament to be played a lot more recently than it was though. At least it was played in New Zealand though.
