I like a 12 team contest, with a top 6 playoffs.

2 pools of 6, top qualifier goes through to the semi final.

A2 plays B3, B3 plays A2 in knock outs.

To pick the 12 teams, the top 8 qualify automatically, and then there is a tournament for the next 8 to qualify for the last four spots. Straight league system. 7 games each. No knockouts.

They did last time, but I feel like it happened earlier than this. So now I'm not sure.

A bit of digging unearths that on 10-04-2011 the ICC reiterated its decision to cut down the number to 10 - ICC news: ICC confirms 10 teams for next two World Cups | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

And then reinstated them on 26 june at the annunanl conference - ICC annual conference: Associates included in 2015 World Cup | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo



So there's some hope, even if it isnt a lot. It is important that journos and former players keep making noise so that this issue isnt swept under the carpet until the day the draws are made

Interesting that the Rugby International Board are looking at increasing the teams in the Rugby World Cup event:

In terms of strong nations you'd say there isn't much of a difference between Rugby and Cricket and as many of us have said, future Cricket events should have 2 matches every day of the week.

b) The big 3 is now totally in charge of things.

The only way to get them to change is massive public pressure that's likely to have massive financial consequences - e.g. sponsors dropping off, people refusing to watch, players refusing to play.

It makes no sense from any perspective apart from the very, very short term reduced costs for the ECB of only having 10 teams to host.
