I've used up too many Qs. So here's my last one for tonight, before I go to sleep... It's actually a wild guess.

Achmat Magiet, for being the only first class cricketer to pick up his first three wickets without conceding a run?

Q11 NO

and a hint before I too hit the sack.

His uniqueness has nothing to do with his cricketing abilities :p
good night.

I know you must have hit the sack by now, but if you are still around ,

Question 12
Is he unique because he represented SA in another sport ?

Well I guess you are gone for the night, and herein lies the problem with this type of quiz !! (As some others such as Indie2, Shankar have already alluded to).

Is this person Thami Tsolekile who played for SA in International hockey by any chance ? (found it by looking up Cricinfo player page!!)

looking at the question i though it might of been andrew hall who is(i think) the only cricketer to be shot at point blank range, but he has played both odi's and tests so it mustn't be.

Actually, a question whether he has done anything outside the game which makes him unique has been answered in the negative, which most likely means it doesn't have to do with another sport. However, the hint that the uniqueness has nothing to do with his cricketing abilities has thrown me into a lotta confusion. And it doesn't have to do anything with the guy's origin either...

Bryce, What do you think of the new format ?

I thought the intention was to start this as a separate thread rather and to keep it going as two separate threads. Anyway this may have been just a trial . But as you can see the Questioner needs to stay on line to answer questions until the answer is found or the 20 questions are up.

I hope SJS or some one will start this as a separate thread and leave this thread be as it is . Also when starting the new thread they would obviously need to state the rules clearly to avoid confusion.

I kinda agree with you. This format looks good in theory, but in practice it doesn't turn out to be better.

Could it be some form of a disability perhaps ?

well as you said like you and me are on at the complete opposite hours so we basically miss out on getting our queries answered.
i also agree with you that a new thread should be started for the new format and we should keep the old one going on this thread.

I seriously thought I was right here...

I mean that's some achievement. I doubt a bowler's figure has ever looked like 3/0 on his debut.

But I guess... yours could be the next question to SJS...

Here's my question still on the old format (although I will endeavour to give clues if no-one gets them ).

Question -

In a Test series, marred by controversies in umpiring the fielding Team had a bowler who took bad sportsmanship to the extreme (after being no-balled and showing his displeasure several times) by running close to the umpire , so close that the batsman couldn't see him, and shouldering the umpire heavily. He ended up being suspended later. But the fielding Team refused to take the field after Tea on the third day and were finally persuaded to return 12 minutes late . Which Test or even which Teams ?

Clue - Bryce the answer is very close to home for you !

I am not sure what to ask next. While I think of something, I hope someone else can ask a question.(bearing in mind we have only 7 questions left).

Hi.

Actually this became like this because one person just asked me a question and said he was going to do it although it was in the same thread. So I thought okay let see how it works out. :p

I thought it was fun. I enjoyed both answering the queries and trying to guess Marc's series. I think you guys would have enjoyed it too.
- It was very interactive and I could almost visualise Sudeep and the others trying to rule out this and that and trying to zero in. It was almost like all those solving the puzzle were working as a team.
- It was clearly an excercisse in getting to the answer by an individuals thinking rather than plain resorting to search engines which I feel is the main flaw in the other one.
- The queries as well as answers came pretty fast, within minutes and this kept a person from going away or made them come back (if they could of course). In the earlier format at times we gave up or the questioner just went away due to inactivity
- The problem of time zones remains in both formats but I suppose in the new one, the speed of the wole interaction is important so a break really spoils it.

Thats it . But I really thought it was fun and would get beyyer if structured for which I have some ideas but you guys have to decide. 8-)

If we want to end the series I can give the answer or provide another hint !

OKAY : Here is the next hint :- His uniqueness is not because of him but because of his family ?? :p
