I reckon SJS would definitely put on the creams for a comeback for the sake of CW :)
I would love to but you will have to put me in the slips to make sure I dont have a heart attack on the field :)

Shame on you laddie :p
Well it was a bit of an exaggeration, but let's just say I'm not the most agile around the field. :p

(and I can't catch, which doesn't help my slip-fielding prospects - I've fielded at 1st slip for a total of about 2 overs in the last 7 years, been offered one catch and dropped it. Although in fairness it was one-handed low to my right - but Athers would have called it "definitely catchable". Oops. :D )

I would be some sort of banter/tactical/vince lombardi coach - everyone needs a morale boost every now and then. People watching me bat would get just that.

Modesty apart I was a brilliant outfield. I won a special award in a tournament in Delhi in 1966 I think for fielding. I dont think I remember an earlier award for fielding in Northern India. Incidentally, in the finals of that tournament we defeated the Indian Railways for whom Kaif's father (Mohammad Tarif) was playing.

I was 16 and played with the tail enders as the top collapsed to get our side past the post for a couple of wickets I think. It was an unexpected result since the Railways were a first class side (meaning they are a Ranji trophy team). It also earned me my first major headlines in a major English daily. It was very complimentary of a young Swranjeet who farmed his older team menbers etc etc. I was flying in the skies and dreamt of great things to come. :D

It seems like yesterday.....

Awesome story. You must have been a bit of a gun in your day. It kind of motivates me to try and make the most of my cricketing career. I can see it slipping away and I haven't done anything up til this point to stop that and I know I would probably look back and regret not trying harder in 10-15 years.

Ask him that. :p

I think he`s trained with the Somerset 2nd`s. That`s good enough for me
Nah, Somerset Under 17's and played with a few of the current Somerset side and SA "A" team.. At the time i was bowling really well and was a bit miffed with their choice of spinner.. £13,000 a year and I still didn't go to the right school!!

Was a dead cert for college 1st XI which I made but had a hideous and unenjoyable season bowling legspin, nearly gave up cricket for good, have been bowling reliable but not brilliant fast medium since..

Got a big tester coming up in South Africa to see if I can get my cricket back on track as a quickie.. I think I can play to a good standard as a batsman, but nobody has really given me a run as one.. We will see.. As Gary Kirsten says its time to "Step up to the plate"
