I don't think the "martyr" sentiment is out there really. The reaction back home has been of anger directed towards the players for embarrassing the country. People are also saddened at the jail sentence, but mostly for the players’ families. I think there’s almost no sympathy for Butt and Asif, and some sympathy for Amir because of his age.

To support my argument: Little sympathy in Pakistan for shamed cricketers.

Well, there's emotional distress as well as the financial loss suffered because of the incarceration of their sons. I think the trio got what they deserved, but I don't think it's unreasonable to feel bad for the ordeal their families are going through.

I don't think financial loss is something they should be bothered about. None of their families are going to be living on the streets as a result of these events.

I think there's definite financial loss for the families involved. Asif and Amir's families weren't well off to begin with. They may not end up on the streets, but their incarceration will have an impact for sure. Asif's dad says he hasn't seen a single penny of his sons earnings anyway. Amir is the youngest of seven siblings. If six elder siblings can't take care of their mother and themselves because they were planning on sticking up their feet and living off little brother's ill-gotten gains, they deserve to be weeded out of the genetic pool.

Holy cow man, are you really suggesting that Hitler was just a misguided soul who merely left a "negative influence" on this world?
