all the cricket fans around the world should consider mazhar mahmood (the reporter) a hero.. this guy has put his life in danger to clean the game of cricket.. he should be rewarded for this.. I don't have any hopes from pcb or pakistan government to do that as he is maybe revealing all their curreptions.. but ICC should definatly reward him for his bravery.

A number were in the Speaker's Gallery in the Australian House of Representatives today.
Once these allegations are out in the public it hardly matters whether Australian cricketers are innocent. They become tainted regardless

I'm sure his book will shift a few copies

Would the Australians named have a case for defamation? Assuming the accusations are without merit, obvz.

Obviously Majeed wasn't making the remarks in court per se, but (as I understand) slander covers oral defamation and the burden of proof in the UK is on the defendant. So if he can't prove his accusations...?

I think your understanding is right, Brumby.

Not entirely sure that a claim would succeed though. The only person to whom he made the allegations was a person posing as being interested in paying for spot fixing so instinctively I have some doubt that there's enough there by way of publication of the defamatory remarks. I'd also have thought that the fact that those allegations were further broadcast via court proceedings is irrelevant because things said and done in court, and reporting of court proceedings, are covered by immunity from suit.

It's really sad to hear the comments regarding the Australian cricketers. The Australian politicians should have some faith in their own heroes instead of taking Majeeds word for it, especially since he was boasting about his connections.

He hasn't named any specific Australian player though, so if anything, it would make it that much harder to sue when no individual party has been defamed. Personally, I would LOVE for that sleaze ball to get sued. Take him to the cleaners any way possible.

He mentioned Nathan Bracken
He said he was Nathan Bracken's manager did he not?

I don't think a defamation lawsuit would stand up; in trying to boast of his influence he's just said "Australian players are in on it" as opposed to saying "I can set up a meeting with Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Shane Watson and Mitchell Johnson who I hold influence with."

If Amir takes performance enhancing drugs while training during his 5 years and is found out, will he be banned?

Apparently it was all just a co-incidence. They won't get away with that, surely? Although, thinking about it, maybe Butt would, but surely not Amir and Asif.

What would be the incentive to take steroids years before you can play again? And why would cricket care if he does? The effects would wear off way before he'd start playing cricket again.

Yeah I really don't get the steroids concern here either.

I don't really know either tbh. :p

They could help him put on mass quicker if he needs it I guess, that's what roids are for after all.
