Again, I am not saying Ponting was bad vs good pacers. He clearly had his moments, just like Lara. No way in hell has someone said he destroyed Great pacers like Lara couldn't, when Lara's 99 home series vs Peak McGrath is better than his whole career.
Ponting comfortably better against high speed pacers and around even against medium pacers.

I think Smith is clear tbh. More reliable bat.
Yeah his England record I was looking into and it's just two featherbed tons in 95 series and one great ton, and then two completely failed serieses against better bowlers, his Australia record is also very on and off imo, his NZ record and India record are straight mid, failed in 90s Pakistan but went big against **** bowling in 2000s on highways, decent record in South Africa but one good series and one bad one. Sri Lanka is some elite ATG work tho... it's a bit like Steyn where his away record is so reliant on India, Lara's is on Sri Lanka.

discovered all this while researching when away records were brought up in Root v Lara v Smith

I don't really care about the India record because that was one series at the start of his career and he proved that he's a gladiator v spin throughout the rest of his career but he had his ups and downs overseas v pace.

Ricky Ponting has scored centuries against Donald(1997), Ambrose & Walsh(1999), Akhtar & Akram(1999), Bond(2001), 4x Pollock(2005) and Steyn(2008).
I don't think the bolded ones count as ATGs in their prime at all tbh. Bond was on debut and Pollock was a shadow of himself by then.

The others yes. He also made a brilliant 80 odd early in his career against Ambrose/Walsh/Patterson/Bishop.

Ive been echoing the same for some time now and get accused of being anti-Lara.

I wonder why lara gets so much hype when there are many holes in his away performances.
