Anyone else seen this HBO doc on Oscar?

It was much rawer then I expected although did somewhat gloss over some of the worse allegations.

One thing Bob does say at the time he was the most popular fighter since Ali...hyperbole?

I though that was Mike Tyson but maybe they meant pound for pound.

That was interesting.

Thought it was a clear low blow, but Dubois still more competitive than most expected.

Usyk has the heart of a true champion, looked well and truly pissed.

Fair to say his powers have waned a bit though.

Still doubt Fury takes the fight.

Dubois was game but not sure I could give him more than one round so it was a reasonably comfortable night at the office bar the low blow which would have hurt plenty.

Fury is clearly going to age out Usyk so yeah Tyson should win that fight but far from a cert.

Regarding Dubois, dunno really can't hang with the elite fighters but tbf they are reasonably old so he will his time in the sun.

He probably batters someone like Parker next.

Sorry phrased that wrong, I think the feeling was when Oscar was young and drawing serious numbers he had the potential to be the biggest name since Ali, obviously he never quite reached the heights needed to be such an icon, but heh nonetheless top career.

Sure but you expect that against the A side in boxing

People were really shocked by the Mosley decision for that very reason

No way someone like Canelo doesn’t get that decision

Anyway, one thing about Oscar is he fought many of the best of his time at their absolute peak

I follow a guy on Instagram who posts blogs about fighters and there’s a recent one on Michael Moorer

Dude is a Filipino so English is a bit sketchy but videos are really interesting

Like Usyk, Moorer was an absolute killer at a lighter weight before moving up and becoming world champion at heavyweight

If Usyk hangs around too long (& they all do!), I can see him being taken out by a bigger but inferior boxer because size matters

Moorer got floored by Foreman in a fight he was winning by a wide margin going into the 12th

Moorer was like 26 when he got tagged by big George though, not really a case of anno domini, especially given Foreman was mid-forties by the time they fought.

Watched the Usyk fight and didn’t see any significant decline

He dominated the fight from start to finish as he should have done

Dunno, I'm definitely seeing a decline.

Not as light on his feet and punch output while still very good is not quite what it was e.g. in the first AJ fight (where I think he was already past his physical prime tbh)

Maybe 5th. There are 4 which are clearly better than him.

Foreman was nearly 46 at the time and nowhere near prime

Moorer put on over 40 pounds to compete at heavyweight (cruiser was a ghost town at the time)

He was still really good but his peak was definitely at a lighter weight

Eubank Jr beats up Liam Smith

Guy can fight but chasing GGG is weird as he’s basically retired

Happy enough for Eubank Jr , the more I have seen from him he seems like an absolute top bloke and enjoyed the interview with Neville a lot.

Nonetheless not sure what he does next, the fight v Benn probably draws good money despite the silliness of it all. GGG is washed but he still beats Eubank JR IMO.
