I mean, I am not disagreeing. But to be honest with you, how I rate late 80s to 2000s players have much to do with the discussions I have with my dad. And he truly believed that a match was never won when Steve Waugh was in the crease. He says that Ponting, Dravid, Kallis, etc. are all great batsmen; but Steve Waugh was among the most dependable. It's not like taking the game away and giving you a swift release like Ponting within a session; but slowly building up his innings and always working towards the goal. I know that one was ODI, but he especially talks about that SA '99 WC match; and the confidence Waugh had in such a dire situation. According to him, he would send in Waugh if the team score in 10/3 over any batsman bar Bradman.
Well you couldn’t send in any of the aforementioned batsmen as they would already be at the wicket or out anyway.

It's not my opinion, but according to my father, in such dire situations Steve Waugh was the world's best batsman.

Haven't seen too much footage of Neil Harvey, but he looked very good. I don't think he should be getting whitewashed in this, so giving him my vote.

He seems like a guy that would be rated a lot higher if he averaged like 2 points higher
People just really need to see the average start with the number 5, in order to value a batsman. But that ignores context of some players, especially conditions and opposition they faced. I mean, I like raw output too, but it's all depending on who you're up against and how hard things were then.

By percentage of runs scored in matches played he's comfortably ahead of all of Border, Ponting and Waugh.

In comparison with Chappell, on face value I feel like Harvey looked better, but I think there are reasons to pick either one of the two. Generally I think Harvey did face a worse quality of bowlers out of this whole group, but probably played in somewhat tougher conditions. Regardless, Harvey should be a strong candidate in this group.
