Black Caps Squad

Sweet, so let's say the output from both is similar and Rachin isn't offering a lot with the ball...when Kane is fit, especially for the Indian game and onwards, you'd go Young as it stands now?
I'd go both and drop Chapman to be brutal. I mean he is a clean striker but I feel like Chapman is a top 4 player to get the most out of him.

So how does that look - Young at 7? Or somewhere higher and move the likes of Latham Phillips etc down?

Young opening, Ravindra at 3 and everyone shuffling down one.

Mitchell has done a fine job at 3 replacing Kane but inexplicably averages juuuust above 30 at number 4. So him at 5, Latham 6 and Philips 7. Santner 8, then Sodhi/Milne/Jamieson at 9, Henry 10 and Boult 11. Means 10 overs between Philips, Ravindra, Mitchell and maybe Kane if he's up to it.

Yeah if Chapman is not going to bowl then it makes his place in the team a lot less of a certainty.

Young
Conway
Ravindra
Williamson
Mitchell
Latham
Phillips
Santner
Henry
Ferguson/So
Boult

The disadvantage of this team is that Phillips is being wasted at no.7. You could always float him up the order though.

Yeah oddly enough we're spoilt for choice but with players who aren't quite right, where losing Michael Bracewell and not having an in form Neesham is hurting us.

Too many qualified batsmen is a good problem to have, so I'd lean towards leaving KW on the sidelines while there is any doubt at all about his fitness. He was clearly still reluctant to sprint and turn quickly in the warm-ups, but in a live match you have to do that. There is a lot of cricket to be played and any risk of re-injuring him now is just not worth it.

Next three matches are Netherlands, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, which we need to not trip up on, but I doubt I'd play him in any of those.

So plenty more time for Young and Chapman to get themselves into the tournament. (I do believe Rachin must play from now on).

I think it's very harsh on Young, but that was next level from Ravindra. He's got to open for the rest of the tournament ... he's a match winner. And he won't be facing any of the numpty part-timers that are usually his demise in domestic cricket.

What's the injury status on Ferguson and Southee?

If everyone is available except Williamson I'd make the Netherlands game a shoot out between Ferguson vs. Southee, Ravindra vs. Young, maybe Chapman vs. Neesham. Players like Conway and Henry can be rested.

This is a very good side and a nice balance of left handers and right handers all the way down to 9.

The way the pitches are playing so far, I think the decision for Rachin over Young is also made clearer by the fact Rachin is a more free-scoring player. And I'm not basing that on their respective ODI S/Rs because I'm aware they're skewed by Rachin being shoe-horned into being a finisher early on his career. He's a guy who wants to dominate the bowling, Young is more circumspect. If we're looking to score 350 or chase 350, I want Rachin looking to hit bowlers off their lengths.

I also think Phillips at 7 would be an incredible waste. If they were prepared to float Latham/Phillips to suit the situation, maybe.

Just give more rest to Williamson

And u simply cannot drop someone like Chapman lol , his firepower is needed at the end of innings and also he can play rescue part if needed

Needham isn't of much use , he will get dropped

And young too if he doesn't perform much in next 2 matches, I know that's harsh on him but ultimately that doesn't matter , he's still in the potential world cup winning squad 😉

My 11 whenever Kane returns

Conway
Rachin
Kane
Mitchell
Latham
Phillips
Chapman
Santner
Ferguson
Henry
Boult

Long impressive batting and 4 proper bowling options with some all-rounders to fill rest

Also rotating bowlers is fine to give rest or play em acc to conditions like sodhi in for Chennai matches.
