Big Bash League 2014/15

Quality wise the australian domestic scene probably has much, much better bowling and fielding compared to the IPL.

But it's harder for the BBL to get the big names like de villiers or narine etc. etc.

tbh CA are probably the number one administrators in the country

mind they are helped by not having some **** piss in his mouth or some such scandal every other weekend

i do wonder how much harm not having so many huge names actually does to the competition, though. i suspect it isn't that much.

Certainly would help to have more marquee names like gayle and warner. Some of our better T20 players are on international duties too during BBL.

More indian players will probably also attract more coverage in india but I dunno how that works with the indian season.

Yeah those scheduling barriers are pretty huge. And now actually using my ****ing brain, it's very much its own animal isn't it. CA has basically found a format that draws tens of thousands of people to watch our domestic cricketers (esp. players on the fringe) play the game. At the same time there's a bit of not knowing quite what it is or where it will go, with the smattering of international players, guys just retired but still world class, and players playing a few games before their world cup call-ups. But the product is compelling as ****, the cricket is top notch and the players themselves are loving it. It has complemented the test summer beautifully.

CA themselves sound keen to let it consolidate for a while, at least until they have a grasp on where to go with it which is a good move imo - http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket...-booming-big-bash-league-20150110-12lh5a.html

If it gets big enough, they'll probably find a way with schedules. That's just how it tends to go. We might see more players being signed for windows, but I also think about things like more stadiums with roofs and what that might do for putting games on at different times. But that's all pie in the sky for now.

Eh actually you know what, I'd say at least that big bash has really found a gem in Flintoff. While he might not be the best player he's been phenomenal as a personality.

The more I watch the BBL, the more I think it could eventually usurp the IPL as the biggest T20 tournament. The aussies put on a bit of a different show, they're competitive but there's much more of an emphasis on friendships and accessibility in the whole production - and it's creating a playing culture that you can see the international boys in particular are absolutely loving. You can really feel it in every game, it's just a bloody fun time. It's better cricket too. Better playing conditions, the lot. Can see a lot more international players wanting to get involved.

Average crowd this year is over 23,000, same as the IPL. CA is doing a tremendous job.
Apart from Andy Maher, who consistently looks like the kid standing outside the cool group trying desperately to find an opening

It would have been nice if they had actually shown the last "run out" at the MCG once the result was determined. We waited around at the ground for a good 5 minutes after the result waiting for a replay ... they showed the stupid team song, an interview with Maxwell, images of the fans leaving the ground, a highlight from the Stars-Hurricanes game but not a ****ing replay of the game-deciding moment.

Good to hear that they're focussing on consolidation, sensible IMO.
