I voted for Lara but it is quite close because Sanga gave his ODI CV a big boost in the last WC, Asia Cup and Champions Trophy. Played some really good knocks especially while chasing. So many people voting for Sanga over Lara is baffling me. I get that their stats looks similar - but Lara played in a slightly more difficult era for ODI batsmen and also faced better bowlers. Can someone point me to a great ODI inning from Sangakkara that come close to Lara's 1996 quarterfinal innings against SA?
I don't think there's much between the two and there are good arguments for both. One thing though - the bowling average over Lara's and Sanga's careers were pretty similar - around 32-33. So I don't think that argument is valid. So many people voting for Sanga over Lara is baffling me. Not about stats for mine. In tests I'd take Lara without a second thought, in spite of his test average being 5 less than Sangakarra's. I just liked the role Sanga played in ODIs really. So many people voting for Sanga over Lara is baffling me.
