I was going to vote for Chappell but at the moment there's no way of voting.:-O
I would have Chappell at 4 and Miandad at 5. Do the runners-up carry over to the Number 5poll?.

Ummm, Poll is there on mine, maybe you need to refresh? And yes, runner-ups carry over to the # 5 poll.

IMO, it has to be Greg Chappell, while I think Miandad or Border should bat at # 5.

Zaheer Abbas, was one of the best players to watch of all time. There hasn't been such a beautiful player of the ball since I can remember.

Chappell, Abbas should have been nominated for #3 is guess, then the middle order could have been Abbas/Chappell/Richards

Tough choice, never realised Miandad was that good. But CHapell was just a bit better so he gets my vote

Abbas could have been in the # 3 however he averaged < 40.00 in that position so I doubt that he would have come close to Viv Richards.

btw, the people that say Richards should be at # 5 must be considering his latter career as during this period he was the best # 3 in the World and the WI top 5 of Greenidge, Haynes, Richards, Kallicharran and Lloyd were just as intimidating to bowlers as the four WI pace attack were to batsmen.

According to the ICC ratings, the following are the peaks of the batsmen in question during the period.

1. Doug Walters: 922 pts in 1970
2. Greg Chappell: 883 pts in 1979
3. Allan Border: 877 pts in 1981
4. Gundappa Viswanath: 871 pts in 1979
5. Javed Miandad: 868 pts in 1979
6. Alvin Kallicharran: 866 pts in 1975
7. Clive Lloyd: 818 pts in 1983
8. David Gower: 817 pts in 1985
9. Ian Chappell: 811 pts in 1975
10. Zaheer Abbas: 803 pts in 1983

Totally irrelevant I know, but I just wanted to point out how good Doug Walters was. Also, he's very unlucky here as he played his first two tests (at 19-years old) within 20-days of 1966 scoring 155, 22 and 115 (all excluded here). Also, he was conscripted into the army for 2-years during the Vietnam war which means he couldn't play between 1966-68. Now if only he trained and didn't smoke and drink so much, he could have been one of the greatest ever :)

No - if he didn't smoke or drink he'd have been a shadow of himself. Kerry O'Keefe's story about Dougie's greatest innings when the axe was poised to fall on him is a classic. K.D. Walters entering the Army as a non-smoking teetotaller, but fortunately emerged thoroughly reformed! :)

So you're going to vote for players you've never heard of just because of their nationality? Not very objective and defeats the object a bit.
