Hard one, this.

I guess I should be consistent and go with circumstances over volume of runs again, so Ponting. His innings was in quite difficult conditions, against a good, in-form bowling attack, and it saved a test that would have hurt Australia badly to lose.

Hutton's innings was a record breaker, but was on a notoriously flat pitch (early in the match at least), against a bowling attack that was fairly weak aside from O'Reilly.
