I doubt if we will find a batsman batting at 100+ at lunch, 200+ at tea and 300 + at close of play in a test match again.

Bradman for me.
Sehwag or Afridi might just have one of those day so don't write it off yet.8-)

I agree though, 300 in one day from one man in that era where 2.5 runs per over was absolute murder, Bradman has got to have it.

The toughest so far.

Atherton - a great fightback against a very good attack in Donald, Pollock, McMillan.

Border - probably facing two of the best bowlers of modern cricket in Marshall and Garner. And Daniell was a fine bowler too. Twice he came in with innings in tatters (16 for 3 and 41 for 3 and battled on while no one else in the team got a fifty in either innings besides him.

Marginally to Border.

Athers.

I will go by the rule book and compare Athers innings with one of Border innings as after all its a battle of single test innings.

BTW, where is Andy Flower rearguard 232 vs India and since we are allowed to take 2 innings together then his twin centuries against SA also deserves a mention.

Punters.

After watching the super series (thats what it was called?) debacle i am not willing to believe that people genuinely give their best in these sortof matches.
I disagree about that series - I reckon that they were fully competitive (because they weren't being crammed into an already full schedule)

Atherton myself. Hell of a rearguard innings, and it's a bit unfair to rate Border on two innings when everyone else has one.

It's about performance in a Test, not individual innings. See Steve Waugh and Graham Gooch.

So the title of the thread should be "Most valuble batting performances in a test." Subtle, but a big difference. Otherwise no innings that did not result in a win, or at least a draw, would qualify for this.
