Battle of the Test captains

International Captain
this is a very tough one. with due respect to the big ship i choose the big cat for uniting players from various countries into one tight west indian team that became the best in the world.

Lloyd moulded a fearsome unit, but The Big Ship does have an unblemished record. The 5-0 thumping of us is very impressive too. Possibly a rather, er, singular character, but had he ascended to the role earlier who knows how impressive his figures would look?

Border, for his tough, gritty nature, and for building a platform for future Australian captains to build on.

Ian Chappell, fairly comfortably. Might be the best Australian captain ever, ahead of Taylor.

Chappell took over straight after Lawry led a pretty woeful Australian team to a 4-0 loss in South Africa and then a 2-0 loss in the Ashes, and the next series Australia lost was 7 years later when Greg was in charge.

Along with the tactical ability and good win ratio, he also led from the front with the bat, though perhaps not quite as well as Border, and basically every player who played under him agrees he was the best captain they ever saw.
