Battle of the Sporting Heroes

Somerset

Cricketer Of The Year
Gerd Muller and Ivan Mauger - didn't realise Mauger had been nominated, good to see him in the mix.

BoyBrumby

Englishman
Muller & Mauger.

Der Bomber usually overlooked in those "greatest player of all time" polls, presumably because he was "just" a goalscorer, but the last time I looked goals were still the preferred method of separating teams in the sport. & he scored better than a goal a game at international level in the days before San Marino/Andorra freebies were to be had too. Most underrated great player IMHO.

Mauger is just the man. His era overlapped with blokes like Barry Briggs, Ove Fundin & Ole Olsen; all multi world champions in their own rights so his record of 6 individual world titles (and in his day the world title was decided by a one-off meeting rather than today's Grand Prix, so an off-day was terminal) is staggering.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Trying hard not to do an Ablett decent left-back for Liverpool, but shouldn't be in this battle comment.

Damn I failed.

Muller

and because I had a doll, umm action figure of him when I was a kid, Mauger.

Even though he's probably the only one to physically harm me, bloody cinders:@
