Qadir. Shouldn't be a landslide tbh.
Yeah, Qadir should be winning. Played in an era with condidtions hostile to spin bowling. Thats why there are so few spinners of Qadir's class in his era and why he was the only legspinner of his time.

Closer than the voting suggests, this one. I've got a soft spot for Qadir for virtually single-handedly keeping the leg-spinning flag flying in the era pre-Warne. But for completeness, and more rounded success both home and away, I've got to go with Benaud.

I loved watching Qadir bowl, and its true he kept leg-spin going almost single-handedly in the eighties.

Yet he's had a nightmare draw I'm afraid, Benaud for me, I'm afraid.

How do you figure mate?
I think people's perception of him as a great commentator seems to increase their rating of him as a cricket player. He had an OK S/R, and only one 10-for. If you count his captaincy and batting, he was a better player than Qadir, but purely as a spinner?...nah.

Fair enough - Benaud's average and economy rate were better too, which I guess is explained that he played in a more defensively-minded era. He also improved dramatically as his career went on, and seemed to take wickets when they were needed with regularity - forming a great double act with Davo. My perception of him as well (which I haven't checked the stats of) was that Benaud was more likely to take wickets under all conditions, whereas Qadir seemed much better on home pitches specifically designed for him. Happy to be proven wrong on that one though if the facts don't back up my perception.
