Battle of the Middle Orders

I don't think having the wrong batting position is a valid enough excuse to ignore someone's record especially when comparing to someone who spent more of this career ahead of him.
Waugh batted Top 3 a grand total of 3 times his whole career. Opening is a totally different beast. Not necessarily ignore it, but definitely it puts some context.

No the context is that they have nearly the same RPI despite Mark Waugh batted higher up the order most of his career on tougher pitches and more quality pacers.

No the context is that Laxman played for 5 more years and has still more than 4 runs higher average, and has more ATG knocks and has batted for 62 innings at top 3, while Mark did so twice.

Two things can be true

Laxman has 1 ATG knock, his 281 and several other quality clutch innings.

Waugh has 1 ATG knock and several other quality pressure tons against ATG attacks.

Literally the only point is Laxmans favor is playing longer, mostly because Australia had more batting resources to replace Waugh.

Their ATG knocks aren't in the same tier. And I think in a 1 0 1 most of Laxman's knocks will come out on top.

Hutton May Compton clearly.

Compton and Walcott and May and Worrell cancel each other out.

Hutton a tier above Weekes.
Compton is more weekes level than he is Walcott, Walcott just doesn't have the kind of sustained excellence even if his peak is only second to Bradman

This isn't really a clear criteria to rank someone ahead based on a single knock.

And you clearly have no idea about the quality of Waughs tons.

Three tons against Ambrose Walsh all leading to wins. Three critical tons against Donald and another match saving one against Pollock. Two against Akram. Plenty of key Ashes knocks.

though, Clyde's peak is absurd, after the 1951 Australia tour, 1951-1958 minus the one series where he had an injury

2,566 runs @ 82.77, 11 hundreds, 9 fifties in just 35 innings.

73*, 96, 163...... Well, let's just say we disagree. You rate Mark Waugh higher (Lol) I think they aren't in the same tier.
