Round of 32, Battle 1

We shall define a legend of cricket on the basis of the following criteria:

- An influential figure who made a significant impact on the way the game is played on the field.
- An influential figure who remained involved in and made significant contributions to the game off the field.
- A hero or an icon who served as an inspiration for others (cricketers as well as the general public) and will be remembered for years to come.
- Remember that a legend is defined not merely by cricket records but also by aura, impact and legacy.

Battle 1

Geoff Boycott (opening batsman, part of rebel tours, outspoken commentator)

versus

Kapil Dev (all-rounder, captained India to a World Cup, the only player with 4000 runs and 400 wickets in tests)

This battle will close after 12 hours (or earlier if it's a no contest IMO) with a lead of at least 5. Otherwise, it will close after 24 hours.

Kapil is one of my favorite players. But I'd have to go with Boycott here. With the rebel tours, controversial captaincy, and that famous run out caused by Botham, I'd have to say he's added more to the "legendary" status than Kapil has.

Sums up Boycs nicely, he was as notorious as he was legendary, but you've got to love him.

The reasons that were explained by adharcric make me struggle to chose the one but still Boycott because of his achievements after retirement .Although there is a severe comp b/w Imran and Kapil but Imran's after retirement achievements were truly legendary and if Imran can lose in the first round then Boycott here and without a shadow of doubt !!!
