Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
John Wisden and Lance Cairns. My Dad still talks with fondness of Lance, his Excalibur and his feats against Australia.

We shall define a legend of cricket on the basis of the following criteria:

- An influential figure who made a significant impact on the way the game is played on the field.
- An influential figure who remained involved in and made significant contributions to the game off the field.
- A hero or an icon who served as an inspiration for others (cricketers as well as the general public) and will be remembered for years to come.
- Remember that a legend is defined not merely by cricket records but also by aura, impact and legacy.

Battle 43

Neil Harvey (batsman, later selector)

versus

Adam Gilchrist (wicketkeeper-batsman, destructive in both forms of the game)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 44

Viv Richards (batsman, dominated attacks, fastest test century)

versus

Ken Barrington (batsman)

This battle will close after 6 hours (or earlier if it's one-sided IMO) with a lead of at least 5. Otherwise, it will close after 12 hours.

Cricketer Of The Year
The first should be a no-brainer, a wonderful, dashing, romantic hero from Bradman's Invincibles, smilingly tearing black-and-white attacks apart in that grainy old footage and thrilling crowds with his desire to entertain and complete disregard for his own stats, up against a bloke who hasn't even retired yet. But I'm going to (perhaps wrongly) let emotions cloud my judgement here, because I can't bring myself to vote for a man so utterly graceless toward and incessantly critical of modern cricket and its players, and who seems determined to completely and forever tarnish his own marvellous cricketing legacy and reputation because of bile and bitterness. Guess what Neil, it's working.

So it's Gilly and Viv.
