Battle of the Legends

I always like the way Saqlain bowled, not sure if that should mean legend status though

Why was he included?
He invented the doosra. Quite significant IMO. Anyways, was that a vote for Saqlain or an indirect vote for Flower by insulting Saqlain? :D

Ah yes, fair enouh then, I vote for him

Just thinking back, were there any questions raised over his action when he bowled the doosra?
Not that I know of. In fact I think he's the only one I've seen bowl the doosra with such a good action. Its not perfect, but much better than others.

Preliminary Round, Battles 37 and 38

We shall define a legend of cricket on the basis of the following criteria:

- An influential figure who made a significant impact on the way the game is played on the field.
- An influential figure who remained involved in and made significant contributions to the game off the field.
- A hero or an icon who served as an inspiration for others (cricketers as well as the general public) and will be remembered for years to come.
- Remember that a legend is defined not merely by cricket records but also by aura, impact and legacy.

Battle 37

Jeff Thomson (fast bowler, regarded as the fastest ever)

versus

Wally Hammond (batsman, regarded as one of the greatest ever)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle 38

Tom Horan (played in the 1st test, later journalist for Australasian as "Felix")

versus

Glenn McGrath (fast bowler, the metronome, leading wicket-taker among fast bowlers)

This battle will close after 6 hours (or earlier if it's one-sided IMO) with a lead of at least 5. Otherwise, it will close after 12 hours.

Should I be a hypocrite and vote for McGrath after saying you have to be retired for twenty years to be a legend?

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
Hammond and Horan.

We all know how magnificent McGrath is, and he'll win his battle in a canter, but Horan was a tremendous figure in the early years of Australian cricket, and then a wonderful cricket writer, so I reckon he deserves a vote.

Let's not give out pity votes here. This is the preliminary round so we want to get through quickly. :)
