I agree , Sobers for me. But why weren't the big 2 left out???? Would have left the result vaguely interesting....
The 3rd Place Match.

Gives us the winnner out of the top 2, and then the Best of the Rest.

a massive zebra

International Captain
Hobbs.

Easily the most prolific batsman in first class cricket. More runs and centuries than anyone else. Also the most consistent batsman in Test cricket. His propensity for reaching both 10 and 30 was higher than anyone in history including Bradman. Sobers may have finished with a marginally better Test average but just take a look at the number of undefeated innings he had to help him. Hobbs was an outstanding cover fielder, apparently the best of his time, so those people who believe Sobers superior fielding to be an advantage really need educating.

Not many people have voted for Hobbs so im going to vote for my opening batsmen at Jaffna Jets. ;)

I think Sobers is better on the back of his bowling, but like Massive Zebra i think Hobbs is as good as a fielder and slightly better as a batsmen, but Sobers pipes him with his bowling.

Hobbs was indeed a strong fielder from everything I've heard, but Sobers was genuinely superlative in the slips. It's like comparing the fielding of Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh. Both were good, but only one will be remembered for his fielding alone.

18-4 to Sobers.

QUARTER FINALS ----- ----- BATTLE TWO

Imran Khan (Pakistan) (RHB, RF)

BC Lara(West Indies) (LHB,LBG)

Barney Rubble

International Coach
Holy Hell, this is a tough vote. Usually for me, all-rounders > specialists, but I just can't bring myself to vote against Lara. I was at the Lord's Test last year against WI and the ovation he got when he walked out, simply for being Brian Lara, was the first time in my life when I have genuinely been in absolute awe of someone. He is one of sport's rarest creatures - a sportsman whose presence in a side means that no game is lost while he is still to play his part. Imran Khan was a great, great player, but Lara is a genius.

Geez...
A very close call. However good Imran Khan was, 375 and 400 runs don't lie. And then there's the best innings Lara ever played...

Lousy captain, brilliant player: Lara
