Actually one of the leading batsman of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Made his Test debut in 1937 and retired in 1955.

Hutton One of the best openers ever, from what I gather. But this is a very close match up and I feel really sorry for Lillee.

Tough one this, cos one's really comparing chalk & cheese. Both world record holders in their day & both of immense value to their respective teams.

I think I'm inclined to go for Lillee tho, because a good case can be made for him being the best Aussie seamer of all-time (Davidson & McGrath fans now spluttering into their tea... ), but Sir Leonard would definitely have to bend the knee to Hobbs & Grace (and possibly Hammond, Sutcliffe & Barrington too).
