Battle of the Cricketers

Marshal for me. One of my favorite bowlers of all time. This is not an easy choice as McGrath is a true legend himself. However, I think back to my very early memories of Marshal dominating batsmen and I was in complete awe of him. Perhaps my memory is betraying me, but the level of fear and dominance I remember Marshal displaying I don't think McGrath can match.

Its always an interesting one that.

On the one hand we have someone saying Kapils bowling average would have dropped by around 5 if he had had some major seam bowling support and you suggest Marshall would have done far better if he had not had the support he had.
I don't see those two statements clashing. Kapil would have taken fewer wickets than his 434 had he good support, perhaps 300-350, but he'd definitely have gotten them cheaper. For one thing, it would have freed him from the role of a stock bowler and allowed him to function as a strike bowler like most other all-rounders.

As for Marshall, he definitely would have picked up more wickets over his career were he not part of the quartet. In that sense he would have done better. However I do not see his average falling in that case, it might even have been higher than it really is.

For this battle, McGrath.

Marshall is undoubtedly my favorite bowler of all time but that guy Mcgrath is some bowler so my vote comes to him by a hair. IMHO the final shood come down to Mcgrath versus Hadlee.

Slightly over 24 hours & I apologise for that, but still a fair way short of 8 months!

A possibly surprisingly easy win for Narromine's champion chunterer (1992-present) by 15-8 & he advances to the quarters.

Next up:

Round2 - Battle 5

Ian Bishop

vs

Sir Richard Hadlee

I suspect I can guess the result, but maybe the strong anti-Kiwi sentiment on the board (:p) might spring an upset.
