Battle of the Australians

Spoffoth - Jones probably achieved more, if you count ODIs, and over a longer period, but for a time Spoffoth was undeniably the best in the world in his field, something Jones could never really claim to be.

Tough for Deano, but this is moving towards the pointy end I s'pose.

My vote goes to Dean Jones. Mainly due to the fact that he revolutionalised the way batsman bat in ODI cricket

Dean Jones was a bloody fine player but Fred Spofforth was an absolute demon. My vote goes to him.

I loved to watch Dean Jones. A special talent. However I can come to any other conclusion than Spofforth

10-4 to Fred. Jones got more votes than I expected, considering the opposition. Anyhoo..

Round 1: Battle 26

vs

Ray Lindwall

Toughest battle yet. Both great bowlers in spin and pace respectively. I'll go with O'Reilly because of the slightly better bowling average, more wickets per test and his 3 ten wicket matches. Both deserved to make the next round though and Lindwall was from all acounts a superb bowler.

eek. Um. Both please sir.

I think they're pretty damn even on the bowling front, firmly in place in the very top tier of their respective fields. Given that as bowlers they're equally all-time greats, I'll look at the fact that Lindwall was also a useful lower-order bat who made two Test tons and seven FC 100s overall. An average of 21 isn't really an all-rounder, but its a pretty solid No.8
