Battle of the Australians - Mk II

aussie tragic

International Captain
Kim Hughes, if not for his last 9 tests being against the Windies at their peak, he would have had a very good test average in the 40's...

Englishman
Spofforth, I think, but Mallett's record is very good for a finger-spinner, given he must've played the majority of his cricket on covered pitches.

Mallet had a great haircut and was decent. Hughes was marginally better, but Spofforth despite playing not many matches was superior, unless I suppose he got out a lot of players who weren't Test Class, lol.

My vote is for Spofforth.

Gilchrist, tough one on Morris though

....btw, how did Bannerman get in with only 3 tests (over Michael Clarke, Yallop, Geoff Lawson or even Symonds?)

bannerman's record of scoring maximum percentage of a team's total might never get eclipsed....

and arthur morris should be the second choice (after trumper) to open an all time aussie XI

but gilchrist is something else... he is as much a certainty as bradman or sobers to make it to any all time XI to keep wickets and to clobber the bowling around at no.7... a gem of a cricketer... would love to see him, warne, greg chappell and miller in the last four
