Battle of the Ashes Moments

Some Australian **** manhandling John Snow at the SCG in 1971 just as we were about to regain the Ashes - not even Larwood suffered that fate

Have we had the Gary Pratt run-out that so irked Ponting in 2005 yet?

And Fred's at the Oval last year, of course.

Norwood's on Fire
Yeah, remember reading that earlier today

TBF, the run-out should be nominated, and then his reaction as a separate moment

There should also be something from '75 - perhaps the unexpected appearance of one Michael Angelow? "It's a freaker!"

And Duncan Fletcher's 'burnt my toast' as a third moment.

A couple I missed out the first time round because they were Aussies. But they are my favourite Aussie players:

Langer's 82 on the first day at Brisbane in 09, after the head injury and loads of pressure on his place from Jaques, just came out and smashed it. Set the tone for the series the same way Harmy did on the first morning in 05... and what's more JL'd been obsessing about it ever since that moment.

Watson's first innings opening the batting, Freddie comes in with loads and huff and puff and postures at him, Watson just laughs. Cute.

1 month till it begins, i love cricket too much to lose, do you think it will un-nerve the ausies the fact we aint lost a series since 2008-2009 winter v west indies ?

No, I remember his hundred from Ashes '93 better, in the match in which Mark Waugh got 99.
Actually that match is a worthy nomination, if not for the newspaper headlines after Australia's first innings.

Taylor got 111 (iir), Slater 160-odd, Boon 100+ and Mark Waugh 99. Apparently it would have been th efirt time the op four in a test team all got tons in the same innings.

One of the UK tabloid's headlines next day was "Waugh Fails".

Have 63 now. Added a few myself, as well as a few I'd overlooked earlier in this thread.
Will leave it overnight and have the first batlle up tomorrow. A few might have 3 moments per battle.

my best ashes moment was at lords in 2009 just cause fredie got 5 and we got a first win at lords since 1934, as well as the stands banter of ausies going 1934 and us standing up with, WHEN YOUR COUNTRY WAS BORN

another benefit for this ashes coming is actualy going to against australia was winning the 5 match ODI 3-2 to give us some confidence

Alright, Johnson's first innings spell at Lord's 09, up to him getting Cook out. One of the best spells I have ever watched, as an Englishman.
Martin McCauge in 94/95 was bad too. For every bad Johnson Ashes spell there's 20 years of woeful England ones to mention!

Presumably the specific moment you're nominating was when Hoggy bowled one a bit wider and Gilly missed out on the fastest ton? We sure showed him
Nah the moment Gilly launched Panesar into the Long-On/MidWicket Crowd the third time and Flintoff just watches it with the stunned mullet look on his face.

Have hated Hoggard since that moment tbh...WAC

Battle #1

(54)Bradman's Final Innings
5th Test: England v Australia at The Oval, Aug 14-18, 1948 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com
Needing only 4 runs in his final Test innings to retire with a Test average of 100, the Don was dismissed for a second ball duck

vs

(59)David Hookes hitting Tony Greig for 5 consecutive boundaries.
Only Test: Australia v England at Melbourne, Mar 12-17, 1977 | Cricket Scorecard | Cricinfo.com
A debut to remember for David Hookes, making his maiden Test half century in the Centenary match, but also moving from 36 to 56 in the space of 5 consecutive Tony Greig deliveries.

Oh, I love the idea of Hookesy (or anyone, really) taking it to Tony Grieg, but it has to be Bradman's last innings. Probably a nomination for the most etched moment in cricket, for the statistically minded.
