Battle of Cricketers - CW's Favorite Cricketer

Magrat Garlick

Rather Mad Witch
16-16...casting vote for me then. Waugh through.

Third round, battle twenty-six

A. B. de Villiers (1984-)

3,902 runs in 58 Tests for South Africa; 96 ODIs
Has opened, kept wicket, and bashed runs a la Gilchrist...and is still only 26
No ducks in his first 78 Test innings

Waqar Younis (1969-)

373 wickets in 87 Tests for Pakistan; 262 ODIs
Known for his reverse swing and, in his youth, extreme pace
Recently appointed Pakistan coach
11th most Test wickets by a pace bowler, at the second-lowest strike rate of anyone with more than 200 (until Steyn's next Test)

I have never been more in awe of a fast bowler than when Waqar (at his best) started his run-up every time (Ambrose and Akram close probably, but just that)...

That doesn't mean I consider him a better bowler than McGrath, Imran, Ambrose or Akram...among the ones I saw live...

Waqar - bit of a no contest given he's up against a **** of the highest order but I'd have picked him over most who are still in this
