Australian test selection thread 2015/16

1 round of Shield before Brisbane. Hard to say if Bangladesh tests will really say anything about what the selectors are thinking.

I'd assume that the players picked vs Bangas will play in Brisbane unless they are abject failures

I was wondering if they may just use Darsh, Voges and Twatto giving themselves time to work out the next move. I'm interested if anyone new gets a dayboo at or before Brisbane.

I think they should just bite the bullet frankly. With relatively easy series coming up against the Bangas, EnZeders (with due respect to them Australia's pace attack in home conditions should still get it done) and Windies there's no better time to pick guys who are going to be the future and stick with them.

Of the guys from the current squad obviously Clarke, Rogers, Haddin and Harris are done, I'd say Watto is also. Had Voges backed up his debut you'd want to try and get maybe 2 year out of him, but I'd stick a fork in him. Siddle might not be done, but is nothing more than a fringe selection for times where we've got three or more top liner's out. So that's 7 of Ricky's 8 that are probably not going to be part of the side going forward.

Smith and Warner are certs and Nev has the gloves with the attack staying pretty much the same except Fawad might get a gig in Bangladesh.

Smarsh will probably be retained unless he has another shocker in the 5th test (and probs even if).

So an opener and Nos 5&6. Mmarsh has the inside running still for the 6 spot, and will likely retain that in Bangladesh, especially if the selectors do decide to cap Ahmed. The other option that they might seriously look at is Maxwell again. I'm not totally against that either.

Smarsh is a chance for Roger's spot opening, but now he's back in the middle order they will probably look to retain him at 4. Burns for mine would be the leading candidate for opener with Bancroft making a run, but possibly deemed too young yet.

If he's not opening Burns would probably come in at 5, but I wouldn't be completely against giving Ferguson a shot there. Lynn and maybe a few others roughies like Mad Dog could be considered also.

I'm not completely sure Uzi is as close to a recall as some think.

Godammit imagine if Hughes was still around:(

All those years getting picked and dropped picked and dropped, he'd finally be a guaranteed selection

I would. And since Voges didn't really work out I'd be surprised if they went for a stop gap like Maxy Klinger. Ferguson is about as old as they would consider I think.

Really vital for Australia they at least draw in Bangladesh. If they lose they'll plummet in the rankings before NZ's swing kings run through in humid Brisbane.

Bangladesh could be tricky, but even an Aus 7th XI should be able to hande NZ tbh

NZ would make a handy 7th Shield Team if we let em supplement with some ACT players.

has khawaja learnt to drive yet?

australia's pace attack lol adub. only one of them is world class now the underappreciated main man retired before the Ashes. they're one of the few teams i'd back to get their **** together with the ball quick but well, they better get their **** together with the ball quick to cover for the ****ty batting.

Fielding is a bigger problem than the bowling stocks. The chances are coming but easy ones are being put down. The fast bowling stocks are still there and putting pressure on the guys in the team (of course I wish we still had Harris). Lyon too isn't that far in front of the other top spinners in Australia, so he's going to keep working hard to improve himself.

no. ten years after he retires i will still be telling lolstraya to stop dropping the worlds premier australian offspinner.
