Where should the last match put Smith on the rankings? How long before he's back at #1?

It'll be almost two years before it has a chance to peak again because of his time off.

It's got to do with the way ratings are calculated - your last year is the most important, the year before that is somewhat important.
So his last year is most important, and he didn't play at all, but he's still no.2? Sounds like the only way he's going is up, and quickly

How would those ratings have affected Bradman's numbers? He would have lots of significant gaps back then when Australia mostly only played England with gaps of two years between.

Shouldn't it be done by your last 10-15 tests or so (with diminishing importance the further back you go) rather than a years thing

It's only been 1 game, after 18 months. Everyone talking like he's Bradman already
There was so much talk about how much has he declined, can he somehow find something close to that form again and keep his average above 60 etc

Him coming back and showing that he's potentially even better and may be gunning for a 65 avg soon is really exciting and I think has caught a lot of people by surprise.
I'm not sure he'd scored a ton yet in the various forms of cricket he'd played in since sandpaper gate yet here he is getting two in his first test back.

“Not changing a winning team” is the most dogmatic Australian selection policy. Probably because the Australian team is still haunted by Perth 2013 (though not strictly following a win).
