Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

BARNES OUT
I really hope that one day, on a bit of a green deck, I get to watch the 4-man pace attack of Starc, Cummins, Pattinson and Hazlewood have at it. It's probably not very likely, but **** would it be fun.

I had a quick read in the paper this morning about our potential one day squad and I was slightly surprised to see Billy Stanlake mentioned. I know Punter the other day said that Stanlake and Swepson are two of the best Australian domestic players to never play for Australia, but I would have thought Stanlake would need to get through a few more overs first.

I still think that Boland should come into consideration, I know many don't rate him.

God no Boland needs to go away and stay away. Bad enough that he's stinking up the Big Bash.

He's not even fit to empty Stanlake's chamber pot

Finch gets dropped and Gnske starts making weird bowling comparisons all over the place

Warne wants Swepson/Zampa to go to India. I have seen Swepson bowl against India A and a few of his first class wickets. Doesn't seem to turn it much, uses bounce okay, didn't see much drift in his bowling. Mos of his wickets came from batsmen slogging or playing down the wrong line. I think Pandya yorked himself and got bowled because of some late dip but not much to say apart from that. He needs to develop more as a bowler I think.

Yeah Warne always wants the best leggie available in the team or at least the squad, with bonus points for being young. Those are the guys almost by default.

Warne loves Zampa, doesn't he? Even as a pom uneducated in the intricacies of Australian team selections, I remember him getting hot and sweaty over Zampa.

My 11 for the first test in india. Now obviously they would never do it, but i'm sick of suggesting we play a 'normal' or a 'normal subcontinent' team. Every time we try and do that we get ****ing dicked. If we are going to win we need to pick high ceiling, high volatility players and hope for the best.

eh, that batting's too light. i'd swap patterson for sok and agar for renshaw with marsh at 3.

Not too bad at all imo, a bit harsh on Renshaw but his time will come to do the Indian tour

Yeh, you're right. Probably a little bit we are expecting the SCG to take spin, but a bit more with an eye to India and playing 2 spinners. Cartright at least offers the ability to bowl a few overs in the subcontinent if it's pretty humid and hot.

On Kurt Patterson, who is in the know on him? Is he a good player of spin? I've never seen him bat, but he bats at 3 (or 4 if Smith is playing) for NSW. Wondering what sort of game he has.

Do you guys think that a fit Shaun Marsh will push Renshaw out for India? I think he might. Will we take 15 to India?
I'd certainly hope so. The elder Marsh has more tons in Asia than anyone else that is likely to be in the squad. Combine that with the fact that Renshaw is probably at least 2 years away from being a technically capable test batsman, it should be a no-brainer.
