ashton agar also a horrid selection pick imo especially because maxwell didn't get picked, what agar has that o'keefe doesn't do better (except maybe for the batting) i have no clue

Gotta look funky and fresh in those KFC ads

At this point in time I think Holland is actually the best bowler of the three. I think they're probably taking batting into consideration though, particularly with Agar given he could bat as high as seven.
You reckon Holland > SoK as a bowler? ITSTL.

Agar strikes me as an agribusiness pick. Next stop, two McDonalds Super Smash games for Pamment's Pinks.

I am an Agar fan, however I'm not sure he was the next in line to be selected. Clearly his centuries last season and the ten for in Sydney this season have got him this go. He's a very good fielder as well.
For Holland I'm always amazed at how good his stats are at seasons end, all power to him though

I fear for O'Keefe's inclusion though, think he'll be a weak point given how much he hates bouncers.

I see Warne has moved away from Zampa in the alternate spinner draft and is now pushing for Swepson.

Not another Mitch FFS

Do Aussie parents have no imagination at all? Or do all Mitches get pushed into cricket?

Maddinson and Bird out

Cartright and O'Keefe in

Harsh on Bird IMO, he has been very very good, but I can understand them wanting two spinners

All the best to Cartright on his debut

This XI was pretty well a given after they brought Cartwright in for the Melb squad. The Agar nonsense was a real worry, but thank goodness some semblance of sanity prevailed.

Hoping Cartwright can bring some consistent runs, but it just shows what a rotten call Mad Dog over KPat was. Awful, awful call that should have seen selectors lose their jobs.

Aside from Wade who will fail miserably I'm pretty happy with this line up to go to India. Add Smarsh and maybe one other and that would be about the best 15 we could take for the conditions.

Yeh, you're right. Probably a little bit we are expecting the SCG to take spin, but a bit more with an eye to India and playing 2 spinners. Cartright at least offers the ability to bowl a few overs in the subcontinent if it's pretty humid and hot.

On Kurt Patterson, who is in the know on him? Is he a good player of spin? I've never seen him bat, but he bats at 3 (or 4 if Smith is playing) for NSW. Wondering what sort of game he has.

Do you guys think that a fit Shaun Marsh will push Renshaw out for India? I think he might. Will we take 15 to India?

Warner
S.Marsh
Khawaja
Smith *
Hanscomb
Cartright
Nevill +
O'Keefe
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood

Renshaw
Bird
Cummins
Whiteman +

If they don't want a reserve keeper take Patterson

I think if Renshaw doesn't go large this week he's no better than 50:50 to keep Marsh out first test in India.

As much as I'd hope to see Nev back in place of Wade I can't see it happening.

Agar will go to India as the reserve spinner obvs. They might think about taking Turner or maybe even Somerville right out of left field as a back up for Lyon, but more likely would only call them up if he was injured.

Don't see much chance or point in taking a quick over Bird who'll be the back up for Haze/Starc.

We took 15 to SL so I'd say we'd do so again. I reckon another all rounder will be the 15th, MMarsh, Henriques, or even a Wildermuth wouldn't surprise me. Not saying I agree with it, but we've seen how quickly the selectors have gone back to their 'must have an all rounder' obsession.

So my bet on the India squad will be something very like:
Warner
S.Marsh
Khawaja
Smith *
Handscomb
Cartwright
Wade +
O'Keefe
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood

Renshaw
Bird
Agar
M Marsh

What I'd pick

Warner
Renshaw/Khawaja
S Marsh
Smith
Handscomb
Cartwright
Nevill
O'Keefe
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Khawaja/Renshaw
Turner
Hartley
Holland
Bird

Of course Wade will probably be there. Not sure whether to pick Khawaja or Renshaw, Khawaja is the better player but is horrid against spin. And Renshaw has no experience in the subcontient AFAIK.

Hartley gets in as a leadership option. Wade....just no, and the others are a bit too inexperienced for a tour like India. Could also take an extra batsman and have Handscomb as the backup I guess.

Not sure on who to bat 6. Could just pick the current Top 5 + Darsh, but I feel like an all-rounder (one that bowls seam) could be necessary there given the precence of two spinners. Turner a massive gamble but I think his spin could work well-ish in the subcontinent, and he seems to be clicking with the bat. We could do a lot worse.

I'd also lean towards a batsman who can play spin well, but I don't know if one exists outside of the side (everyone was talking up Handscomb for this, but he's already in the side anyway). Bancroft, maybe?

Very very harsh on Bird who was superb in the last game. If it turns out they've misread the pitch, and the spinners get tonked, it'll be funny.
