The selectors should say to the new members that we would like them to average 40 with the bat and under 30 with the ball. The good guys do it, the amazing do both..

Batting average of 40 = S.Marsh, Smith, Siddle

Bowling average below 30 = Starc, O'Keefe, Siddle, Bird, Pattinson

Well Shaun Marsh is going to come back you'd imagine so it makes it difficult. Also if Maddinson for instance looks out of his depth in the 4 remaining home Tests, say making 100 runs at 14, I don't think you can just say let's stick by him for another 6 Tests.

It makes Adelaide very intriguing. You'd think Marsh waltzes back into the side. You'd also imagine Handscombe is the higher ranked out of the 3 debutante bats. So essentially Renshaw and Maddinson are competing for a short to mid term spot in the Australian side.

Personally I think the selectors probably want to slot Marsh back in at the top and only something really special from Renshaw would stop that.

I know Maddinson's been batting at 5 for NSW but I feel like he would suit higher in the order. Anyone else get the sense he's auditioning for Khawaja's spot in the mid-term?

I don't. I admire his talent for striking the ball but he isn't a test 3/4. He is a 5/6 that comes in to do some downhill skiing and demoralize bowlers and fielders. I think he is too prone to brain explosions for Uzis spot in Test cricket.

NSW have dropped him down to 5 for a reason. Far too inconsistent for a 3.

I'm not sure what we have after India but right now we have SA (1), Pakistan (3) then India (4). So it's probably more a run of 8 games. But we know they will want Darsh back and I struggle to believe anyone who looks gash at home to Pakistan will get to tour India. Maybe of the 3 they would give Handscombe the biggest run of games if he was their 1st pick. The thing is it's easy to say pick young and stick but what's hard is the sticking if they don't make runs, the team loses and the fans/media are excited. I don't believe these selectors have that sort of conviction.
