Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

This is not actually true. When Nevill was picked he was averaging mid 40s in first-class cricket and IIRC was even occasionally playing for NSW as a specialist bat a season or 2 before his selection.

I was one of the guys thinking that he was easily the best batting keeper in Australia, but his actual returns have been overwhelmingly disappointing.
I don't agree that his batting was what got him the gig or, if it was considered, was more about him being good at occupying the crease, handy skills with the line-up crumbling so often. I didn't think anyone expected him to come in and start slashing regular tons, even if his form for NSW was good.

Anyway, I'm sure we can agree that, more than anything, Nevill should go back to Shield cricket and work on his ****ing chat.

if they don't bench Lyon

1 Hazlewood
2 Starc
3 Bird
4 Sayers
5 Lyon

That's 5. As I just ****ing said; they won't pick 5 bowlers.
Ah, I get you now - I for some reason thought they still had another batsman in the suqad

tbf that's how I remember it when he got selected (that he was simply scoring more runs than every other keeper in the country put together), though obviously being a better keeper than Wade was a major factor.

I like this guy tbh. Calls people out at random, says some stupid **** and doesn't care, pisses people off.

I loved when they selected Nevill over Wade, showed they valued keeping as an important skill. Wade was pretty bad there for a while.

I expected Nevill to provide much what Healy had provided, tidy unobtrusive keeping, and handy rearguard stubborn batting. You could often count on Healy to make some runs at #7 when it mattered.

Rightly or not, I really do feel like they've bought Wade into the team (largely) because they feel we need a bit of mongrel. Now that Warner is a good boy onfield, and we dont get much verbally out of Smith, Nevill, Khawaja or Voges it's quiet out there. Starc gives a little, but that's not really Haze's game, and the rest are newbies. Would love to get Patto back for this reason too.

Genius. I think you have just found what's missing from Boofs coaching staff. The sledging coach. Let's get Rad in there stat.

We are now in the post Phil Hughes inquest world.

Do you think that the selectors are the sort of xxxxs to disregard that and ask Wade to wear it ?.

Yeah, becoming a published author I think ruined Warner. He clearly accessed a higher plain of mind and soul through intellectual pursuits. I doubt there's 11 men in the current domestic setups that could make an honest mongrel XI.

Starc, Hazlewood, Bollinger, O'Keefe (only when encountering pub bouncers), Cowan (only when encountering non-Sydney Sixers fans) Faulkner (only when the opposition is black), Wade, maybe Siddle, possibly Smith and Bailey?

Make Australia Growl Again.

There's more to it than just saying what was allegedly said or not said to Hughes. No one is gonna say "we'll kill you" for a long time. But I think sledging is still a thing innit? Verbal presence, getting in someone's head? Just seems Wade is one of those guys to deliver that, a lot more so than the genteel Nev.

To be fair to the Aussies, it's not the bowling part of the game letting you down, it's catching the ball and hitting the ball that seems to be the biggest deficiencies in the side.

Sledging may make you feel you can puff your chest out a little more, but it's not going to win you matches against South Africa.

Australian selectors dislike this post.

Renshaw... sure.
Handscomb - good.
Sayers - good.
Bird - good.
Maddo and Wade - WHAT THE HELL WHY WHY I DON'T UNDERSTAND I WANT TO SET THINGS ON FIRE

KPat and O'Keefe extremely unlucky (albeit for different reasons).

Lyon v O'Keefe and K-Pat v Maddo must have been difficult for the selectors tbf

They probably went for their usual decision making process (ie. pick the guy from NSW) and got confused

O'Keefe would've been picked but for injury IMO.

I dont even think that it is clear that K-Pat was/is next in line.

I get the feeling that Head must have been considered since you'd have to say he is similar to Maddo or he has attributes that exceed such as being a current ODI player, leadership expierence, a better spinner, used to Adelaide Oval.

The weird part of Trav Head's game is ive heard people complain he often makes low scores and heard that he gets out in the 90s heaps too. I think that he makes lots of scores around 35..

He must literally go 4, 92, 35 on repeat.
