Work Begins On New Cricket Facilities
Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton, Cricket Australia General Manager Michael Brown and NT Cricket CEO Andrew Ramsay today announced the formal commencement of works on a major facility development for NT Cricket.
"Cricket is one of the Territoryfs favourite sports and our strong local competition continues to produce stars, as we saw with the success of the NT Strike in winning the Australian Country Cricket Championships.
"Today I am pleased to announce the beginning of works on a $3m partnership with Cricket Australia to bring our Cricket facilities here at Marrara up to world standard.
"This project will deliver top-class facilities to develop our talented players and host more first class cricket in the Top End, such as the recently announced 'Feast of Cricket'

MUMBAI INDIANS IN BRISBANE

One of the glamour sides of the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians, will play six games in 10 days around Brisbane next week.
Mumbai topped the table in IPL 3 before being upset in the final by Matt Hayden’s Chennai Super Kings in April.
The Indians will use the tour as development series as they build towards the Champions League in South Africa in September.
Mumbai will play every match against the Australian Institute of Sport squad, which could feature a number of Queenslanders.
The first game will be a Twenty20 contest at Allan Border Field on Tuesday 13 July, with three more T20s scheduled for Wynnum-Manly’s Albury Oval.

Retired PKF Tasmanian Tigers' batsman and one of Tasmania's most successful captains, Dan Marsh, has this week started a full-time position as the Talent ID Program Co-ordinator at Cricket Tasmania (CT).
After announcing his retirement in March 2010, 37-year-old Marsh started his new position with the CT Cricket Department yesterday.
His role will be to identify, develop and advance Tasmanian Youth (male and female) across Tasmania, including PKF Tasmanian Tigers' rookie listed players.
Some of the other core duties associated with his position are managing the Capture the Tiger program, assisting with the delivery of coaching courses, establishing and delivering captaincy and leadership seminars for targeted players and individual coaching of Under 15, 17 and 19 representative squads.
Marsh said he is really looking forward to the new challenge and helping Cricket Tasmania to unearth and develop Tasmania’s next cricket stars.
"I made it pretty clear when I retired that my family and I would really love to stay in Tasmania so we were really pleased when this opportunity at Cricket Tasmania arose.
"Tasmanian cricket is in a really good place at the moment and I'm just happy to be a part of this and hopefully continue to assist in the development of the Youth Pathways programs throughout Tasmania," he said.
CT Cricket Operations General Manager David Boon said that Dan is the perfect fit for the new position that has been made possible through the generosity and funding provided by the Kerry Packer Cricket Foundation.
“His knowledge of the game is immense and he will be an outstanding resource for the players fortunate to be identified and selected as part of the Youth Pathways programs, “ Mr Boon said.

Big Bash new boys likely to call SCG home JAMIE PANDARAM

.THE Sydney Cricket Ground Trust may have lost Twenty20 internationals, but they are poised to host the newly added Sydney franchise in 2012's expanded Big Bash.
The Herald understands that one Sydney team will play its home games at the SCG and the other at ANZ Stadium, which secured future T20 internationals after the NSW government put $1.2 million towards the bid to have games shifted from the traditional base, despite subsidising the Trust.
Cricket Australia, Cricket NSW and the Trust last night announced that a new agreement had been reached to stage all one-day internationals and Tests at the SCG for the next five years. But another coup awaits.
It is unclear what involvement Cricket NSW will have in the second Sydney franchise, but the Blues already play their home games at Sydney Olympic Park. The Blues may be split, with a second western Sydney side based at Cricket NSW's Blacktown centre and playing at ANZ Stadium while a central Sydney team trains and plays at the SCG.
Cricket NSW earlier this year handed ANZ Stadium the rights to T20 internationals but even as relations stretched with the Trust, they were always likely to come to terms for Tests and one-day internationals.
With the $400,000-per-year guaranteed for CA from the ANZ Stadium T20s, officials chose to overlook inflated crowd figures and many cheap and free ticket giveaways from last season's Big Bash.
SCG Trust Chairman, Rodney Cavalier, said the new five-year deal for internationals, which will take in tours by England, India and South Africa, was the logical outcome.
"The SCG is the home of cricket in Australia, one of the world's two finest cricket grounds. Test matches have been played at the SCG since 1882. That tradition will continue. The SCG is where the players want to play, where the cricket lover wants to come.''

The selected group come from a range of backgrounds; some have had international experience, such as Daniel Flynn and Shanan Stewart, while others are just starting out in domestic cricket.
A number of players will go on to play for the New Zealand A, participating in the Emerging Players tournament against Australia, India and South Africa, including Michael Bates, Colin de Grandhomme, and Neil Wagner.
The winter training squad also features the fresh faces of Adam Milne and Bevan Small who have been included in the wider Stags squad to go to the Champion’s League in September. Fast bowler Milne is a talented up and comer while New Zealand Under 19 player Bevan Small is considered a talent with the new ball.
John Wright, New Zealand Cricket’s Elite Coaching Manager said the players have been selected with the aim of enhancing and developing their skills. “We’ve got a squad of promising young cricketers. There’s a range of players coming from diverse backgrounds, some have international experience, some have First Class experience,” he said. “The players were chosen for the winter training camp because they show promise.”

It is also the revamp that CA wishes to ease into the international game in time for the 2015 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
Exhaustive consultation with fans, players, officials and others has encouraged CA to draw up a game it believes will offer a more bracing contest than the tired 50-over version.
While market research conducted over the past five years indicated only a slight downturn in the level of interest in one-day cricket as opposed to Tests and Twenty20 matches, CA's marketing manager Julian Dunne said the slide needed to be halted.
''One-day cricket isn't in massive decline, but it is in slight decline, and if we don't address it now, the decline will increase,'' he said.
As a result, CA head of cricket operations Michael Brown and his lieutenant Geoff Allardice have drawn up a possible scenario that features innings divided up into two blocks of 20 overs - as previously trumpeted by chief executive James Sutherland.
However, the problem of matches being decided early by the fortunes of teams in the first halves of their innings has been addressed by the proposal of a ''super-striker'' similar to the designated hitter used in Major League Baseball. If adopted at international level, this would mean no more repeat of the dull cricket that invariably followed the early loss of Chris Gayle's pivotal wicket during matches between Australia and the West Indies last summer.
Fans had indicated to CA that they were far more likely to turn away from cricket in any format, the sooner they knew which way a match would swing, adding impetus to the idea.
Other tinkering allows bowlers more leeway, with bowling teams able to use a minimum of four bowlers in any way they see fit, rather than restricting them to 10 overs each.
Pacemen will be allowed to deliver two bouncers an over rather than one, while greater leniency will be applied to the interpretation of legside wides.
There will be fielding restrictions throughout each innings, with two fielders permitted outside the 30 metres circle for the first five overs of each block, and four from overs six to 20.

Gotta be honest - don't rate this idea highly at all from CA, who generally have a pretty good record in one-day innovation.
