How did you find this out? I reckon Wright would be a pretty good bowling coach. IMO, Wright should only play in the 4 day games from now on. One more injury and I reckon he will retire.

Looking forward to the Australian emerging players team being announced to.

BULLS BOUND FOR DARWIN

Wednesday 30 June 2010

The XXXX GOLD Bulls will provide valuable match practice for arch rivals Victoria and the SA Redbacks in a triangular Twenty20 tournament in Darwin in August.

The Bushrangers and Redbacks have qualified for the lucrative $12million Airtel Champions League T20 competition in September, and the tournament will be used a warm-up for the international event.

The Bulls could give a number of emerging young players valuable experience in the tournament, which could be useful for when the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash beings in January.

Cricket Australia have gone to some lengths to ensure that the teams enjoy the best possible conditions for the tournament.

They have convinced the NT Government that TIO Stadium at Marrara and its drop-in pitches are the best venue for the tournament.

Consequently, regular tenants the Northern Territory Thunder AFL side, who are chasing their first finals berth after entering the QAFL last year, have had two fixtures transferred from Marrara to the Gardens Oval.

don't think they will go for him over steve smith personally. would love to see smith get picked because I think he would make at least 1 score, maybe enough to push out north.

Matthew Wade, the Victoria wicketkeeper, blasted 80 off 50 balls to set up Australia A's 27-run victory over Sri Lanka A in the one-off Twenty20 in Townsville. Wade opened for the hosts and crunched nine fours and two sixes in his half-century, which raced them to a challenging 4 for 176.

The captain George Bailey provided a late surge as he finished unbeaten on 35 off 24 balls, while Aaron Finch (29) and Adam Voges (17) also chipped in. James Pattinson struck twice in the first five overs to build on Australia's strong position and have Sri Lanka 2 for 32.

Mahela Udawatte started well with 28 off 22 but the assignment quickly became difficult and there was no way back after Dinesh Chandima (23) and Chamara Kapugedera (26) were dismissed. Brendan Drew (2 for 19), Moises Henriques and Andrew McDonald ensured there would be no escape by the visitors, who finished at 7 for 149.

Despite today's success, Wade said he wasn't going to push for an opening spot in Twenty20s at Victoria in place of 35-year-old Brad Hodge. "Hodgie called me last night actually, I won't be asking him to hang them up just yet," Wade said after the match. "He's a great player and has done so well for us. I try and model my game a little on Hodgie, who strokes the ball around a bit and gets into the innings later on, since I'm not a natural hitter."

Sri Lanka have already lost a couple of first-class matches as well, but Wade expected them to put up a better show in the one-dayers coming up. "I think their game suits one-day cricket more," he said. "They play a lot of shots, good strikers of the ball, if they can get the ball to reverse late in the 50-over game, it's going to be a good challenge."

WESTERN Australia's iconic Lilac Hill match has been forever terminated.

The decision is due to a lack of interest by touring cricket teams and a cramped domestic schedule.

The Western Australian Cricket Association postponed the match last year but hoped the 2010 edition would go ahead to celebrate another Ashes summer in Australia, as well as marking the 20-year anniversary of the inaugural game.

But with the cricket schedule getting busier due to the explosion of the Twenty20 format, the WACA and Lilac Hill Festival match committee had little choice but to close the book.

"When we decided 12 months ago to postpone the event for 2009 we stated just how much the cricket landscape has changed in two decades and the greater demands on international and interstate scheduling," WACA chief executive Graeme Wood said.

"The constraints continue to provide us with great challenges and it has unfortunately resulted in this wonderful event coming to an end."

Arguably the greatest moment was the 10th anniversary match in 1999 when Dennis Lillee played his final game for the Chairman's XI alongside his son Adam. They ripped through Pakistan to set up victory.
