Australian ODI selection thread

Faulkner hasn't got big runs for ages in one dayers.Hasn't played a decent innings since the world cup,and his bowling is being bashed.
Maxwell got 60's and he is in the test team and he doesn't bowl anymore.
Mitch Marsh averaged in Big Bash and one dayers, but his last one dayers he failed with the bat, failed in the shield with the bat,he's in the test team.

Handscomb did well in the test 90's average and a 80 odd in the one dayer, spare keeper.
He even beat Travis Head who got 120 odd,+50's and 11 wkts.

Then their is Cartwright 37 in the test,3 overs, failed in the Big Bash.

Puts Stoinis' 140* odd and 3 wickets at 40 odd in perspective a bit.

Add Warner & Smith & I think that's about the best ODI side Australia can roll out currently.

Starc, Hazel, Cummins, Faulks & Zampa.

Stoinis > M Marsh for mine. Could be a personal thing, but I've always found both Marsh's to be overrated.

I personally like Lynn as well, but I get the feeling they'll see him as a T20 specialist.

Based on the talent in the BBL, & while there are some good young players, I don't think there's anyone else they're missing out on currently. .

Lynn's being selected in ODI cricket which I would think, not having looked at the stats but just the way that he goes about his cricket, is his worst format.

He's a bit like an early Sehwag/Warner, who are so effective with the field up in FC cricket because they can hit through the field, or in T20 hit over the field. But the majority of the time in ODIs you need to be able to manipulate the field, and score off as many balls as possible. Lynn's best way of scoring off as many balls as possible is hitting as many balls as possible as hard as he can - which will lead to a lot of bad looking dismissals that he'll get crucified for.

Also, changed the thread title to something more in alignment with the nature of the first post - before that it was "Stoinis - where to from here?".

Whatever it takes!!!
why not merge it with the Australian team selection thread? Do we really need two selection threads for each team?

But yeah, Aussie ODI side looking strong again. Massive favorites obviously for the Champions Trophy. Expect an Eng-Aus/RSA final myself.

Yeah I know he was selected for ODis, missed out in 1 game and then got injured, I hope they persevere with him a little though. You do have a point about the middle overs though, but you still want a balance with some big hitters.

Either way, It was funny people suggesting that was an Aussie C side that played the other night, when it really would look like a normal side with Smith and Warner added. All the others barring their 2 replacements are there or thereabouts.

I think Maxwell's position will rest on the last 2 one dayers, and the 4 Tests in India,a fail with bat and ball, will see others get a go,maybe the recall of Bailey or White.
2 60'a in 6 one dayers is hardly consistent, and he is not trusted to be bowled.

I dunno why Maxwell isn't being bowled. He was the 1st choice spinner in the WC here and now he cant even get an over

I can only assume it's to give Head a good run of it, or so India don't have recent ODI footage of his bowling to look at before the tests (not that it would make much sense, but you never know)

I wonder if Maxwell isn't bowling in one-dayers because he's getting his arm used to red ball bowling...

Surely they simply think Head is the more useful bowler? I mean, we can all disagree, but that seems the pretty obvious decision they've made.

Yeah its a bit strange, they're just pure filler bowlers at the end of the day. But I guess lately Head has had that knack of picking up those filth wickets that really stymie a chase. Whereas I dare say Maxwell's bowling has degenerated, if such a thing was possible in the first place.

Maxi's bowling went downhill after the World Cup,like Faulkner, they worked them out.
I think the jury is out on Faulkners' batting and bowling,I mean Cummins outscored him.
I like Head he keeps it simple when he is bowling.

Maxi hardly bowled for the Stars, for Victoria in Matador Cup and Sheffield Shield, He doesn't bowl for Punjab as the opposition smash him as if it were Kohli bowling.
