Australian Domestic Season 2022-23

Assuming Moz retires I think Edwards is probably a lock as the weird no-rounder at 7 next season anyway imo. If no interstate keeper is signed then Gilkes hanging around is fine, wasting those games on Holt this season was silly so if this ensures that doesn't happen again so be it
Yeah Gilkes staying around is alright if he is going to focus on his wicketkeeping full time, wouldn't pick him as a specialist bat though. Certainly fair to say he isn't the biggest problem in the NSW team

Edwards making runs here is unequivocally grim though

Arguably unfair on Harris, his Test career has been a joke but he has at least generally been a strong performer domestically. This innings now isn't too surprising really if you look at the WA attack, not exactly 80s West Indies tier tstl

It's when the bowling is better and/or conditions more difficult where he looks (and honestly is) short of the standard

Edwards ton a mockery of the game.

is Caleb Jewell an outside shot at an A team start or as an Ashes bolter? Not sure if he’s played County cricket but tbh whenever I’ve watched the bloke he looks all class.

If there was ever a player that needed to bat for his average it was Edwards here. Good selflessly tbh

South Australia should lose all their points they’ve earned this season for letting Edwards get a century tbh

Scott Boland plays for Victoria while Queensland, who needs to win to get into Shield final, rests Bartlett & Swepson while Neser gets injured in warmups

WA also “rests” Morris but not sure how he’s tired

Doubt it. Only averaging 38 this season qnd his career record is poor.

Tend to think Boland playing and Morris not is more about Boland flying back from India a bit early and Morris not doing so. Should have if anything been the other way around, Morris needs to be bowling more in match situations for his own continued development, Boland on the other hand knows his own game inside out, he's an established quantity as opposed to a developing player

Neser going down in warmups was just sheer bad luck. FWIW Bartlett did come over to the ground at some stage to be a sub fielder/in reserve as a concussion sub, which makes the decision to rest him in the first place a bit more confusing.

I think Jewell is a better player than his overall FC record indicates, had a slow start to his Shield career, was probably picked too young initially, has definitely been better the last couple of years. Still not quite there yet IMO but it isn't an absolutely insane call

I know someone close to the team

Aside from Neser, Steketee wasn’t fit to play either (hence 10 overs out of 140) so they reversed course and flew Bartlett down late but not early enough to be included

Whole thing is just a mess when you consider that Renshaw & Swepson should also have been playing rather than sitting on their arses in India

I originally thought Steketee seemingly breaking down was just one of those things that happens, now knowing he was half crocked going into the game makes it look especially bizarre that QLD gave Bartlett a spell in the first place. Strange planning (or seemingly lack thereof) there

Meanwhile, looks like Kelvin Smith has decided to forget trying to play properly and just have a dip like he generally does against grade bowlers. Nothing about this innings really suggests permanence, but it has paid off so far. Long may that continue

Matty short gone for 80, no 3rd hundred for him :(. Does anyone know why he wasn't included in the Aus-A squad thats going to NZ? Can't imagine he has a county gig.

Joof ton, must be contract time again.

Seriously though, well played. NSW offered him too much width at times and he took full toll of that

Did Lehmann do a deal that he'd let Edwards etc score runs if NSW let Lehmann score runs

Hackers Hackney at it again, in the finest tradition of renowned Parramatta DCC opening batsmen

Hell of a comedown for spencer johnson today. Seems like a typical KRO pitch tbf but 115-1 in the first dig and going at 6's in the second dig.
