Australian Domestic Season 2020/21

like the source of many of our complaints about CA's governance is that they were too satisfied and too focussed on their objectively excellent financial position and were obsessed about protecting it/building it further, hence the player deal stoush and paywalling half the season

done with this. the relevant information is in publicly available financial statements, required to be accurate and audited by law. you can read them, and see that cricket australia's financial position - not their overall governance, not their management of the player pay deal fight, not their overall approach to grassroots cricket or selections, but the literal written fact of whether they were making money or not, was unquestionably sound before the pandemic and only at risk due to the fact that the india tour could be cancelled entirely. it was not. or you can continue roping in irrelevant nonsense to spin your conspiracy theory.

this was your claim:

quite simply: this is either (a) complete and total nonsense or (b) cricket australia's board has flagrantly cooked the books of its own legally required financial statements as of 30 june 2020, and everyone involved should spend many years in jail for criminal fraud. as well as a whole bunch of accountants at PWC, who signed off on the report as accurate and proper. i'll take (a).

apparently now the fact that crowds were in, something every sporting code has done in australia for at least six months, is a sign of their utter mismanagement. i genuinely question how much you actually know about what life in australia has been like over the past year and the context in which cricket finds itself. the claim about the tours being scrapped for the ipl is also complete nonsense, as the bulk of those cancelled tours were scheduled between march and august. once again, checking these very basic, documented facts is something you should be doing before making these wild claims, not before.
International travel wasn't even a thing for a long period of time after March last year and still isn't the easiest thing with many nations across the world.

Yeah, I also fail to see the sense in cricketers being told they are travelling to a state where they are going to have to follow the strictest of covid protocols, they are literally shamed for going out to a restaurant in the press, but on the ground it's totally ok if they then find themselves holding the same cricket ball touched by the spectators, everytime that ball goes into a crowd of 15,000 which isn't even 1/3 capacity of the Gabba, all this just so some chump change can be made.

Also if the CEO of a cricket board loses his job due to incompetence in just 18 months in the middle of a pandemic, when his predecessor was clutching onto that post for 18 long years, until a player protest over pay disparity started exploding on his face then administrative and financial mismanagement kinda get intertwined on their own.

As an average fan when you see the cricket board of the team you support, ringing the alarm bells in public about financial doom & gloom, when players who form Cricket Australia are complaining about not getting their due then I think anybody is well within their rights to express concerns.

as with many other things in this discussion it is clear you know very little about how or why that occurred too. hint: it's not because the top players weren't getting paid enough. or indeed that their pay wouldn't have gone up significantly under the offer CA proposed to them.

these are things you would know, had you followed it closely. did you?

yeah he was basically on the way out by then and he was hurriedly rushed back in because he was one of the few people who the ACA might trust

in regards to NSW's shield team, I would just use Sangha at 7 and spin. It's not ideal, but it seems silly to pick the fourth in line spinner, unless there's a youngster they're particularly excited about, which seems unlikely.

That's assuming they're going back to playing at the big grounds. if there's more bunsen burners in store, well then it's tricky

Eh, it's not as bad as I feared. It's only for the OD cup, which Nevill won't be in and then Patterson might struggle to get a game as well.
Yeah fair point. Usually I would say Jolimont st should keep their noses completely out of that sort of thing, but it isn't really a case of punting Nev off to the side or anything like that

I think its time that the shield is moved to a particular timeslot. Either running from October to Mid December or February to early April

BBL ratings were in a bad shape and that's why all the gimmicky rules were introduced this year, this year the ratings however have seen a spike and genius broadcasters would probably give credit to the introduction of their rule changes for this.
I've watched a bit of BBL this year, but not a lot. I didn't even know what the Power Surge was. Just two overs of fielding restrictions it seems. Meh. Yet the clown in this article seemed to think it was massively innovative and would bring in the crowds. Lol

CA got the Big Bash right in the first few years because they promoted it as summer family fun, big names, hype etc etc. Now they're trying to impress people who don't really like cricket with the wrong methods. Post Covid, cut it back to six weeks, get some actual big names here for the entire tournament, plus schedule so the test guys can also roll out.

So CA basically are ordering NSW to make Cummins captain.

Dire
Not sure where you're getting the idea CA are "ordering" NSW to do it.

From what I can gather NSW cricket are making it happen to give him some leadership experience.

Considering the amount of prominent people in and around Australian cricket who have been loudly advocating Cummins the captain for a good 12-18 months now, I don't see how you can possibly say it's all CNSW

There is no doubt whatsoever the idea is being "encouraged" from higher up
