Its a weird move for WA - I assume that will mean either North or Marsh will be promoted to the top of the order?

In any event, ripping batting lineup.

FORMER Tasmanian fast bowler Gerard Denton has signed a two-year contract to return to the Tigers, the TCA announced today.

Denton, 32, left the Tigers in 2004 after being offered only a one-year contract by the TCA and spent the past four seasons with Victoria.

But the future is unclear for fellow paceman Damien Wright.

The 32-year-old has been offered a Tigers contract but has elected to enter the second-round transfer pool, while wicketkeeper-batsman Sean Clingeleffer has not been offered a contract and is considering entering the transfer pool.

Big quick Adam Griffith has been offered a contract but is still in negotiations with his management and the TCA.

The Tigers have offered 17 contracts, with opening batsman Rhett Lockyear regaining his contract after being cut last season and Jeremy Smith elevated to the rookies list.

Kingborough batsman Brady Jones has been given a rookie contract for the first time.

CRICKET AUSTRALIA CONTRACTS: Ricky Ponting, Ben Hilfenhaus.

TCA CONTRACTS: Dan Marsh, Dane Anderson, George Bailey, Travis Birt, Luke Butterworth, David Dawson, Michael Dighton, Mark Divin, Xavier Doherty, Chris Duval, Brendan Drew, Brett Geeves, Jason Krejza, Rhett Lockyear, Tim Macdonald, Tim Paine, Jeremy Smith.

ROOKIES: Alex Doolan, James Faulkner, Wade Irvine , Brady Jones, Jonathan Wells.

A good thing IMO. Pura Cup isn't to entertain crowds, it's to give the best 66 players in Australia a chance of proving what they've got.
Haha. Wonderful attitude. Hard to keep the competition going if there is no money. There was serious consideration a few years back that all Pura Cup matches would be moved from The 'Gabba to Alan Border Field due to very poor crowds, and if that were to happen than the AFL could get there way on drop-in pitches.

Mate, you really think Younis Khan is going to change the current situation?

Somewhat. Bring someone like Rudolph in for WA and let Younis play for NSW. High South African population in WA and high Pakistani/Indian population in NSW, surely that would increase the crowds. WOuldn't be anythnig dramatic, but it would certainly imrpove the poor state (attendance wise) that the Pura Cup is in.

It wouldn't make the slightless difference. McGarth could come back and play a full season for NSW and it wouldn't bring in the crowds. Akhtar is looking at a getting a run in Australia and I doubt even he would bring any crowds to domestic FC matches. Would be surprised if All Time greats like Lara or Tedulkar would bring crowds back.

Really it is just a waste of time and going to take a spot away from a local.

I see your point and generally, I think you're right but in the case of blokes like Akhtar, well, he brought more people to district games when he had a run for Sutherland (I think) so if he rolled up for NSW, I'm sure it'd bring out a few more people. And Tendy? In Sydney? Forget about it! Bigger crowds for sure.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I don't think it's about crowds, tbh. More the chance to play a higher or different level of cricket. Or money.

Personally would love to see more overseas players (of good quality) play in NZ's comp, to give the players some decent opposition to get experience against.

SACA could do with a name playing in the batting line-up, that's for damn sure. Mind you, if an ultra-motivated professional like Andy Flower can't gee-up enough to score runs playing for SACA, geez who can?

Akhtar went to Mosman and they had slightly bigger crowds for about two games. One of those games the NSW players were back, which brings slightly bigger crowds anyway. At the back end of his stint it was a non event and crowds went back to normal.

Even with Tendulkar, the crowds will come for a couple games. But by the end of season it will be back to normal. There has to be more appeal to watching the games then just one player. Do you see a massive increase in crowds when Tendulkar turns out for Mumbai in the Ranji or in Trinadad with Lara turns out in CB Series (or whatever it is called). Does Lancashire get a massive increase in crowds when Murali plays for them or when he plays for Tamil Union.

Yeah, hard to argue with that. Keeping a local player out in NSW is different than in SA so I'm a bit jealous; your locals are so good whereas keeping a local SACA player out is no big deal. :D

Yes and No. Would rather Akhtar anyday of week ahead of Bird, ****ley, Coyte or Lambert. But then again there is a good chance he would keep out Hazlewood or Henriques as well.

I'd hate it if Akhtar came to NSW. Has apparently been nothing but a complete and utter pain at Mosman and in County Cricket. He showed little interest in the team and it was all about him.

Guess that is an incentive to do better then the import.
