I quite liked the race, even though there was no SC for the large part and there were some massive gaps, the racing was still good and passes were still happening.

Brodie really deserved that. Makes this year a big win for him. Both the 1 and 88 were so far ahead of the others the whole race I’m glad the SC didn’t screw that up. And gave us a great duel, though no real lunges.

lol BJR at Bathurst was classic (also lol Jones being their best) BRT is so woeful rn its depressing.

Fords overall never really looked in it sadly, but so long as Triple 8 didn’t win I’m ok.

Chahda being a ****ing idiot after being laps down was so awful to watch.

The one guy who really got kinda screwed by the FCY/SC - Le Brocq. Looked locked in for fourth but unfortunately had to pit after the SC picked up Brodie and the limiters went off. So lost extra spots.

Thought it was a better race than last year - Fords still seemed a bit deficient on Conrod.

Not the strongest day for NZ but cool for Kostecki and Haze. Haze has dragged some shitboxes around tracks for years so nice to see him get a run in a top car.

Sucks for Payne but I suspected he'd crash out. He's been fast but flirting with danger all weekend.

Stanaway might not quite be a top tier talent but boy are there some spuds further down the grid he should replace.

Chahda is kinda funny in that he's well out of his depth even by the standards of the backmarkers but he'd still destroy us all on a track day. 2.3 seconds off pole is awesome for a nuffy.

Regardless of anything else that has came out post race (the Erebus mechanic story is an absolute shitfest) this is probably the biggest good story out of the race for me. Bloke is quality but really hasn't had the equipment to show that, best car he had in his fulltime Supercars career was the 2nd in line BJR car for a couple of years, everything else he has had has been a bit crap.

Well deserved for him to get this. Definitely well deserved for Brodie as well, although really his quality wasn't in question at all. Erebus will miss him. That being said however Cooper Murray really did impress me with his pace, made the safety car mistake which was not great but he showed plenty of speed all weekend. Jayden Ojeda also impressed me as a co driver

Yeah its hard to tell though with car differences. Ojeda did seem really quality, but say Cooper Murray is comparing with Lowndes rather than a full time driver. Like at the same team in Super2 Allen has dominated Murray last year and this year. I’m not sure of the age of the cars in Super2 but yeah its difficult to predict based off the enduro drives.

WAU more like LAU.

Skaife focusing on the Kostecki/Waters gap and not realising Kostecki has pulled 3s on Brown and losing his mind for 10 laps when he comes out 3s ahead.

Fords all having slight issues so we get an all Camaro podium.

BJR with 3 **** cars and one good one.

Classic race heh.

Very different feeling around the GC this year as it seemed like the town was empty

Probably had a good crowd but everyone else stayed home, avoided Surfers and surrounding areas

I mean street races are exciting and all but would suck for people who have to work on the weekend. (I guess that’s why Monaco works so well, everyone there is already rich af)

Won’t be able to watch today’s race but I’m hoping for a banger. The qualifying stuff has really mixed stuff up.

3 BJR cars (none of them Andre) and 2 BRT’s in the shootout? Chaz starting 22nd? Yes please.

Up at turn 8 once again for this year, certainly got a good view of the qualifying carnage yesterday

Certainly going to be interesting seeing just how many drivers are out of position relative to where they usually run

Well there was some fun action at the start. But damn. Tickford seriously? How do you mix up the tyres like that? Idk if Cam had a shot against Feeney but he wouldn’t have been passed by Brown at least.

Seriously though, some of these guys can be embarrassing. Love and Evans especially (partly due to their constant fighting in the race) but their pace was awful. Especially for guys who qualified 6th and 7th…

Frosty my fave guy but him being spun and finishing ahead of these guys and Slade is crazy. Mostert kinda underwhelmed despite starting from the pitlane, probably due to being caught in that Aaron Love train.

Murray is an idiot. Reminded me of Chahda at Bathurst. Car multiple laps down trying to race. Ugh.

Also rip Dale Wood lol. That was a rough one.

Tickford never exactly been averse to shooting themselves in the foot, even back to the FPR days
So true. I recall being very frustrated at both Bathurst and in the championship multiple years before Frosty broke through.

Boy you must’ve had some fun qualifying sessions at Turn 8 this weekend.

Evans reckons they might get his car out for the race. Will be a miracle if they do.

Well that certainly wasn’t a boring last race. Absolutely insane in fact. One of the most chaotic I can recall.

Thought the Brodie penalty of all of them was a little harsh. And then Waters on de Pasquale didn’t have an investigation at all? Felt a little off.

Props to Brown though, amazing drive. Great drives also from Kostecki and Chaz holding on was crazy. Tentatively looking forward to next year.

After the first race of the weekend I’ve kind of developed a hatred of Cooper Murray, so sucks to be him.

8 race winners (5 Camaros and 3 Fords) and 10 polesitters (5 Camaros and 5 Fords) this year. My main hope for next year is honestly that DJR give Brodie a good car.

It also bugged me a lil that they kept saying “two greats of the sport are finishing” earlier in the day. Like, thats a low bar for greatness if Slade clears it. But farewell Frosty, I’ll miss ya. Hopefully he gets that co drive (at Tickford I believe with Waters) and gets to have some fun fast Enduros.

Would say he’s probably the 5th best Supercars pilot who started this century.

That's a huge call but then again I'll list them out and see (in no order).

Whincup
Scotty Mac
SVG
Ambrose
...

Ok I can see it. Pretty equal with Courtney, Davison, Kelly and Mostert. Tander was 99 wasnt he?

Big gap to 5 though. I think Kostecki, Brown, Feeney and Payne will go on to be better.

I never rated Courtney, Rick Kelly or Davison as highly as most. They're in the Waters/S Richards bracket but with better cars. The tier below Lowndes/Murphy/Tander/Ingall despite similar Bathurst/championship results.

Nah he’s easily better than all of them. Mostert can challenge him but he needs to win that championship. He’s neck and neck with Murphy imo for best driver to not win a championship. Murphy edges it because of Bathurst atm though I’d say.

Looking into old results and realizing how hard the points systems robs guys who DNF. It's actually kinda bullshit. Mark Skaife had 7 victories in 2006 and Rick Kelly 1, yet Kelly won the championship and Skaife was 16th! Lowndes had the same drama in 05 and 06, and in 05 Murphy was 11th with 4 wins and several more podiums. One retirement is a problem, several kills your championship dead.

I know the points system was crafted to reduce the technical gulf between the factory teams and the privateers the series needs to flourish, but I don't think points should have gone below 15-20th then even with 30+ entries and certainly not now. The privateers and factory satellites had evened the field by then.

Might sit down sometime and apply the F1 points system to that decade to see how it shakes out. Ambrose will stretch his points gap by a lot I expect and Lowndes will collect a couple more titles.

Also holy **** Skaife still had serious one lap pace in 2006. I know Ambrose was gone, Murphy was in a crate etc but Lowndes and Tander were there and some kids called Whincup and Winterbottom in good cars.

Edit - I see they did exactly what I suggested for 07 with top 15 scoring and it was still janky with Tander dominant but still only just scraping the championship by 2 points. It did mean Alan Gurr came 53rd in a field of roughly 25 full time cars (including his own Britek entry) though hahah owned by every co-driver who got home in the enduros.

iirc Ambrose wins 05 if that Murphy hack didn’t crash him out

If the 2005 season used the F1 points system, the results are hilarious. Ties split through wins/podiums/highest finish/toss a coin.

Here are the results of everyone who got points. This would have been an awesome points system, because you can come from nowhere to championship contender with short notice. Garth Tander didn't score in the first 5 rounds then got 5 podiums in a row (with 3 wins) to storm back in.
