Sure. That still doesn't mean he'll get a game or can make the XI.
Agreed. As long as people don't write him off completely, I am fine. He shouldn't be built to be some thing much though because he hasn't played a game in ages. We are way too early in his career. His career hasn't even started.

Can we have have some prior warning of his debut pleas because I need some fantasy cricket points and have a spare spot for an E batsman to replace Karan 'I like to fail when I'm in Manee's team' Goel.

People like Goughy and others are only doing Pont favours (if this is what Pont wanted) by just reacting more and more.

When Pont showed the video, it was so obvious all the doubters were just going to pick something else they didn't like. Next it'll be "Yeah he bowls fast, but can he swing the ball?". Then after that "Well he can swing the ball, but can he bowl a slower ball?"
This is just getting silly.

If there is footage of him bowling then show it. There must be an extensive library if he has been trianing for 3 years. That video was a complete waste of space. It showed nothing.

I have nothing to gain by knocking the guy (and frankly I couldnt give a **** if he swings it). I just find this overall approach laughable.

My criticism has always been from a burden of proof perspective. There has been little shown of this guy and until there is I will criticise facts, figures and rumours being thrown out there so early.

My interest in this is I think Pont put his reputation on the line with some of his interviews. Sharma isnt what interests me but the fact that after making interesting claims and risking ridicule, Pont did little to support himself.

Im happy to admit that this maybe was an unintentional comment or 2 that got out of hand. However, Im amazed by the lack of evidence provided when reputation and credibility is on the line.

People said he didn't exist, and he showed a training video of him.
Oh come on. 8-)

That is not what was meant and you know it.

Noone said he didnt exist. Just that no evidence was provided. And by exist it means within the context of the claims.

If people want to believe rare claims without any evidence then good luck to them. I, myself, with continue to wait for evidence before believing anything like this in any area of life.

With regards to this guy, Im interested in comments from someone in the Royals and footage.

Its an interesting case, but one you would expected to have been supported better.

You'd have to think that perhaps there is an attempt by the Royals to cover things up. You'd think Warney would be mouthing off as if he found the next Kamran Khan, were there no conscious attempt to keep things from the media.

i think for pont it's not purely about "atul sharma" it's also about the bowling action and training methods/techniques that were/are being used to train atul. from my perspective point believes that fast bowlers will be better for it if these techniques are incorporated in their training programs, if atul sharma turns out to be successful i'd bet other coaches and players would start incorporating some of ponts methods. though i agree not playing any matches for so long could be a hindrance and probably isn't the best way to go, but then again apparently atul remodeled his whole action and possibly his approach to fast bowling so he probably did need a period of time where he wasn't playing any matches but not as long as which has occurred.

Are you serious? People were talking about whether this was a hoax for Christ's sake.

People were going on about how his date was wrong on the IPL website, and he was a keeper on the Cricinfo website.

It was as if these errors were made on purpose to confuse everyone

Ah..yeah, a hoax that he bowled 100mp/h, not a hoax that the man actually existed.

I said cricinfo listed him as a keeper, not to try to disprove his existance, just as a passing comment. As in "this guy can't be that special if cricinfo doesnt even know he's a bowler".

Stop being so damn ignorant.

Apologies, I will not get in the way of you criticising (or actually getting visibly pissed off) anything related to Indian cricket ever again.

And believe me, you have the track record to prove that.

You've got anger mgt problems man.

Yeah, they did. But I was not one of them.

You called me out by name and I defended my position that extraordinary claims require proof. Nothing has changed since the first interview in terms of showing this guy can do what has been claimed or that a 'system' for producing super fast bowlers has been developed. Im interested in understanding and witnessing, not listening to rumour and speculation.

I dont think this is a conspiracy. I think it is something that is basically based on a guy that isnt ready to contribute at the moment and may never will, that we currently know little to nothing about. However, Im ready, and more than happy, to change that opinion in a heartbeat as soon as something that can be substantiated is released.

Why do all the Indian fans have to get up in arms about anyone criticising the Indian team or an Indian player? It happens. Deal with it, and grow up. It's pretty juvenile. It's not even like India is remotely the best team in the world.

I don't think that Jono was defending Atul Sharma because he was Indian, rather because he thought he had been unfairly treated.

You're kidding right? Seems to me the only reason he was defending him was because he is Indian. Which is strange, because I never attacked Atul Sharma, or any other Indian at all.

Personally I don't care if you insult bhaji or yuvraj or any of the myriad of over-hyped IPL wonders. However I will dispute you on all matters Ganguly and Kumble, and would be positively incandescant if the reputations of Sachin and Dravid were ever unjustly soiled.

I think this is an interesting approach to creating a player and I'm glad it's been tried (if it has indeed been tried) because other players can only learn from it. Sure it probably won't be 100% successful, but I like the idea of athletes pushing themselves to physical perfection, it reminds me of American Football and the phenomenal athleticism of some of the players where so many youngsters are measured by 'tangibles'. It's something that's never really come into cricket before (other than bowling speeds) but I definitely think there's a place for it, although how large is yet to be determined. For example if some of this guy's training methods are implemented on mass among young bowlers it can only be a good thing as they'll certainly bowl faster. Personally since hearing about this have been doing a lot more weight training (squats, it's all about squats and dead lifts) and plyometric exercises (never done this before, big differences fast) than before in the quest for little bit more amateur zip, and it's working! So Atul Sharma, even if you are something of a frankensteinesque monster, I'm grateful that you may exist and even if you never play a game of actual cricket I hope other player's learn from you.
