You only have 10 players in your test side, and Flintoff is there as a front line bowler.
Right u are....I'll play both Gillespie and Harmison....if Harmison was out of form I'd drop him for KaspaFaaipDeOiad said:You only have 10 players in your test side, and Flintoff is there as a front line bowler.
What would be wrong with that?FaaipDeOiad said:You only have 10 players in your test side, and Flintoff is there as a front line bowler.

Seriously, I would put Andrew Strauss (and Hoggard in an English summer) before Flintoffzinzan12 said:All joking aside ....you would have Flintoff in the side SJS?

It interesting that people do seem to rate Hoggard so highly. Personally I found right throughout the NZ V Eng 3 test series last year that he always seem the least effective of the english bowlers, perhaps the conditions in that particular series weren't condusive to swing because I have seen that he had a very good tour of S. Africa. But last year against NZ , Hammison, Flintoff, Jones and even Giles all appeared more of a danger than Hoggard.SJS said:Seriously, I would put Andrew Strauss (and Hoggard in an English summer) before Flintoff
Trouble is an English Summer (this Ashes season almost impinges(sp) on Autumn) is not so much like the summer of old, at least it wasn't last year and i can't see it being this year. With no test at Headingly and the first test starting late July, Old Trafford likely to spin i can't see that Hoggard will be much more that a support bowler this year. Not to say that he won't be effective at that, he's certainly better than he was a couple of years ago when the ball isn't moving but I hope he proves me wrong and takes a bucketful.SJS said:Seriously, I would put Andrew Strauss (and Hoggard in an English summer) before Flintoff
He is not picked as such, in terms of being among the four main bowlers in the side. He is picked as an all-rounder.marc71178 said:What would be wrong with that?
He is a front line bowler.
I dont know whether they will fill a bucket but I think he will be one of Englands main bowlers in this Ashes series. The Aussies are not great players of the swinging delivery. They will find Hoggard more difficult than Flintoff or Harmison.superkingdave said:Trouble is an English Summer (this Ashes season almost impinges(sp) on Autumn) is not so much like the summer of old, at least it wasn't last year and i can't see it being this year. 12th - Clarke - he'll make a good sub fielder and drinks mixer.
If Watson was picked, he would be there ahead of Flintoff.

He is one of the four main bowlers. He nearly always bowls more overs than Jones/Anderson.He is not picked as such, in terms of being among the four main bowlers in the side.
Judging by Mavric's side, only Flintoff....SJS said:So whats the difference between Zimbabwe and England ?
Hogg is a better bowler and batsman than Giles in ODI's.FaaipDeOiad said:Yeah. There's a question mark on Gillespie if he has a poor series too, and maybe Thorpe since he has Katich or even Clarke competing for his spot. Then there's Hayden and Strauss as well.
As has been said, it will be interesting to see how the general perception of what the combined XI should be changes after the series.
For the sake of argument, a combined ODI XI for the NWS:
Adam Gilchrist (k)
Michael Clarke
Ricky Ponting (c)
Damien Martyn
Kevin Pietersen
Andrew Flintoff
Andrew Symonds
Ashley Giles
Brett Lee
Jason Gillespie
Glenn McGrath
Only three englishmen of course, but England really only has one proven world class ODI player in Flintoff, and another who certainly looks the goods in Pietersen. Giles just gets in ahead of Hogg. If Clarke isn't opening, I guess drop Martyn for either Hayden or Trescothick and put Clarke down at 6.
