Ashes Draft

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
KK always picks the guy I was going pick whenever he is just before me!

I'll go for Ross Edwards who will bat at 5 or 6 and field superbly in the covers.

Teja up next.

Just thinking about the one round for 30s/40s; surely the time lost to the war doesn't matter as much if we're only using one series per round? So we could do both Invincibles(1948) and Bodyline (1932-3) and have, say, one 19th century series?

Ah sorry... I didn't see NUFAN had picked so worried I was going to be skipped if I waited any longer.

Redpath is quite a top player so good pick IMO. Has to be said, some fantastic batsmen in this era.

The 1960's was a tough time to pick a series from. 15 draws and just 10 results tells the story of just how sedate this era was. Should I pick something that was representative of this? I decided against this and have instead gone for the one shining light, right at the start of the decade. A topsy-turvy contest, with Australia managing to win at foreign soil.

For round 5 we have the 1961 ashes.

Round order (reverses for round 6)

@ Howe_zat. My thinking when combining the 40's and 30's together was not so much about the war, than about that alot of the guys who played in the 40's played most of their careers in the 50's too. Which would make picking a series from the 50's with minimal crossover exceedingly difficult.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with picking pre-war players. Just requires a bit of study, that's all

Are people picking players on Ashes record or overall record? I am choosing based on the latter.

Amiss' record against the WI is fantastic. When Cribb gets done with his standardized averages, I'd love to see how he compares with the likes of Hayden, Sehwag and Kallis.
