Who is Australia's greatest opener?
He played on some horrid sticky wickets, the average in his matches iirc is 25 or 26, in the matches of someone like Root it's 30 and for someone like Peter May it's 24, so clearly on a very low scoring side of the spectrum which gives his runs a boost. Why should we go past Trumpers average?
Pretty sure the other two mentioned in the poll wouldn't average anything above 28/29 in the horrible wet wickets of late 1890's and 1900's.He played on some horrid sticky wickets, the average in his matches iirc is 25 or 26, in the matches of someone like Root it's 30 and for someone like Peter May it's 24, so clearly on a very low scoring side of the spectrum which gives his runs a boost.
Hayden should average 35+, there'd be plenty of hard wickets to get runs on, Morris prob notPretty sure the other two mentioned in the poll wouldn't average anything above 28/29 in the horrible wet wickets of late 1890's and 1900's.
Hayden couldn't average 35+ in England, New Zealand and South Africa in one of the most flattest eras, don't see him doing that in wet wickets of Trumper's time.Hayden should average 35+, there'd be plenty of hard wickets to get runs on, Morris prob not
rain isn't that frequent in Aus so on a sunny day It'll just be a hard Fast pitch to make runs onHayden couldn't average 35+ in England, New Zealand and South Africa, don't see him doing that in wet wickets of Trumper's time.
But would it be as flat as the pitches in ENG, SA and NZ that Hayden played in?rain isn't that frequent in Aus so on a sunny day It'll just be a hard Fast pitch to make runs on
probably on par with current Aus pitches aka good movement + bounce but bereable, if it rains it'd be a disaster thoBut would it be as flat as the pitches in ENG, SA and NZ that Hayden played in?
Fun fact:-probably on par with current Aus pitches aka good movement + bounce but bereable, if it rains it'd be a disaster tho
what's cook's average in Aus/SA/NZ compared to aggregateFun fact:-
Hayden's average in NZ, ENG and SA is 33.5, and the aggregate average in matches he played there is 32.2 (which is quite high).
So, Hayden wasn't any better than an average better in those places (tail-enders included).
Cook's average in AUS/SA/NZ= 39.71what's cook's average in Aus/SA/NZ compared to aggregate
Simpson. How on earth isn't he on the poll?Who is Australia's greatest opener?
Simpson is definitely the first choice in the AUS AT XI as an opener. Averaged 56 as an opener, good leg spinner and an ATG slip fielder.Simpson. How on earth isn't he on the poll?
No he isn't. Trumper is the 1st choice. It's close between Simpson and Hayden for me to partner him, my choice is Hayden for LHB and because I have Miller and O'Reilly so his leggies doesn't matters.Simpson is definitely the first choice in the AUS AT XI as an opener.
