Playing a hastily arranged friendly against Fambridge from my OD league (the bloke with 60+ players in his squad). I'm resting Kepler, Woods and Turner, but Prutton has done the business on attacking, with figures of 10-1-29-6.

End of Over 39: 152-8, runrate=3.90
Hennessy 8-2-27-1
Lonergan* 19 (29 balls)
Faulkner 0 (4 balls)

Last Wicket: Brownfield b. Hennessy 19 (FOW: 152/8)

Cup, last 128:

Bill Frindall XI 11 ao (9.1)
Tuck 5/5, Rock 2/6, 3 run out

Dynamo Morpork 13/0 (2)

38,272 supporters felt slightly cheated. Their £185,000 is well received, however.

Playing a complete 2nd XI Tomorrow in FC as we've got 2 huge OD matches coming up this weekend in my League & the Cup. I'll possibly be playing GFI on both, so I want my PFLs to be as high as possible.

Sod. Borderliners (Prem) in Cup while still trying to buy a bowler, with an FC game against Mud poodles (Prem) and an OD game against the league leaders two days later.

Seriously tempted to GFI and toss the FC though...

How did it even get close against that shower? Got down to my filler batsmen and I needed my spinners to take 7 of the wickets. There's a better engine on a 20 year old Lada than there is on Battrick.
There might finally be some good news re the match engine:

Ok, I have tended to hold back on dev board postings to avoid giving people the idea that I'm disregarding ideas etc by showing favouritism to certain threads however I figured I'd post here.

My personal opinion is that I would like to see the OD match engine improved. Contrary to what JH has said, these days I pretty much look over all code across the board. I believe events such as dropped catches, lbws-not out, misfields/good fielding etc could probably be implemented pretty darn easily - I can see how it can be done; the 'space' in the code is there and its a matter of throwing a few extra calculations in.

Advanced orders would be more difficult due to the way it was designed originally. Having said that, you may all remember a news post about two years ago about being able to tell the keeper to stand up/stand back as well as a few other fancy things - these are things that sort of have the foundations laid but nothing more done with them.

One thing I would love to do - and actually started last night until my computer decided to crash and not save 3 hours of work - is re-code the OD match engine (sort of as a proof of concept for Allan) to split up the logic in terms of data access, object models and the engine. Instead of (for example) the match engine loading up all games for today, updating db flags, processing the matches and updating results, the match engine would be a separate entity that is passed in two teams, runs the game, then gives you the results and it is up to you to determine where you go from there (whether you store these results or just print them to screen for debugging). This would allow a great deal of testing as it is decoupled from the database, and would let us do something which Ashario does at FTP - whenever people whine about results we can run their game with their orders a few thousand times and determine whether they were unlucky or whether the engine would've caused them to lose 75% of the time. It's an exciting prospect.

There are many reasons for the sort of 'frozen' OD engine development, as opposed to games like FTP who's match engine is rocketing along. Essentially though, and I don't think Allan will mind me saying this, not doing things right the first time can lead to problems down the track which require a lot more time to fix later on - let that be a lesson for all budding programmers out there. It's sort of like an exponential ratio of time required early as opposed to time required later on.
Better late than never. I think FTP has given BT a bit of a wake-up call.
