Okay, it's only recently dawned on me that my two best bowlers are both defensive. Now I want to get rid of one of them and upgrade to a similar quality of bowler but attacking or destructive, but I'm not really sure which one. Some have suggested selling both and bringing in a top class all-rounder (Like Charlie Allen). What do you think I should do? (This isn't what they currently are btw, this is what they'll be at the end of the season).

Code:
Deepak Lambert - 20 yo, BT Rating=52,458
RH Batsman, LM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, energetic
A defensive player with feeble leadership skills and feeble experience.
Stamina: proficient Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: feeble
Bowling: exceptional	Consistency: wonderful
Fielding: strong
Code:
Tony Sambrook - 21 yo, BT Rating=44,741
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, energetic
A defensive player with competent leadership skills and feeble experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: wonderful Consistency: wonderful
Fielding: competent
Was obviously leaning towards Sambrook due to being inferior, but I'm starting to entertain the selling of both of them a little. What are people's experiences with defensive bowlers? Both have good averages but such poor records against teams who are any good. They just seem to get blunted by decent batsmen.
Last season I had a similar problem with Jeithoon where he wasn't going for many runs but wasn't taking a significant amount of wickets. But most of the batsmen he was bowling to were around remarkable to exceptional. So they were on par or better. This season facing similar batsmen he seems to be able to take a lot of wickets against them. Defensive bowlers aren't that bad depending on how high they are.

If your going to train both to say exquisite plus you might as well keep them. But say your only going to try Sambrook to exceptional, then you might as well sell him as he is always going to keep it tight but not take a lot of wickets. As most top batsmen will be around that level or higher.

With defensive players they do need to have high primaries to take wickets against top batsmen. I would sell a batsmen with Sambrook if your going to go down the all rounder route personally. That way your not short a bowler.

OTH CC v Jaffna Jets: Jaffna Jets won by an innings and 70 runs

First Innings of: OTH CC 103 All Out
Jeithoon 3/14(15), Willetts 3/13(16), Sishayi 3/30(11.4)

First Innings of: Jaffna Jets 221 All Out
Lucas 127*(186), Quintin 33(77), Clough 4/46(13)

Second Innings of: OTH CC 48 All Out
Willetts 3/5(9.5), Sishayi 4/8(10)

Easy win in the end. I would have liked to score more runs but they have decent bowling attack and it was a tough pitch (uneven). Lucas seems to have an amazing record with the bat when everyone falls around him. Sishayi starting to find some real form with the ball. Willetts has been out bowling Jeithoon of late, he has really come on this season. It is going to be funny looking at my bowlers e/r at the end of the season. Most are going to be under 2.

Got an easy OD match so I should be able to rest whoever I want. I probably still play a decent side to try and finish off the match quickly though.

playing bot and they had a good first innigs (or two people had very good innings; @ #8 Proffit hit 155N.O and @10 Rohan it 55) Queque got hit everywere 18-0-91-0
we have started ok 61 for no loss so us to hit 500 and bowl them out cheepley (hoplfully)
and get full points to garintee premotion to teir V and it is the same in the OD i just need 1 win or draw to get premoted to teir V in the last four games:happy: .

not bad for first season! even though i do know next year will be had work and we proberly will get relligated!

Good start in FC against one of two decent opponents in the league (Knuckleheads). Bowled them out for 166 (their former NT batsman scoring 102*) and currently 226/1. A win will virtually wrap up the FC league, just need to hold my nerve in the OD league with all remaining matches against teams on the bottom half of the table.

On the receiving end of my very first declaration in FC today; not entirely surprised given that I was fielding nothing higher than a proficient bowler, and those at no higher than invigorated PFL. My batsmen shouldn't have much trouble against a very nondescript bowling lineup, so it looks like this one's heading draw-wards. I'm not likely to win the FC league after last week's debacle, so I'm going to conserve PFL for OD in order to bump up the NRR, and see how high up the promotion list I can get. Currently 86th out of 256, would like to sneak in to the top 40 if possible.

This, naturally, was the cue for two comp/med bowlers to take the wickets of Janes and Platt (rem/sup and sup/sup) in the space of four balls, as we still trail by 150 or so. No idea what's up with my batting at the moment.

Oh, and there goes Ganfield. Joy.

I've been snowed under at work the last few weeks, and so I've slipped behind with my updates. Had to swallow a pretty bitter pill this week, when I found out that, thanks to the NRR debacle, I'm not in fact 8 or 9 runs clear of Aquantra Ccat the top of III.7, as I'd believed. I am in fact around 15 runs in arrears. I'm well aware of the fact that I've noone to blame but myself for that, and if I'd won matches more convincingly then I'd be in front. However, in my defence, since beating Aquantra CC three weeks ago, I've been playing games slightly more conservatively, in order to make sure of winning them rather than gambling for increased NRR. Obviously If I'd known I was behind, I'd have been a bit more adventurous. I haven't given up promotion to Div.II altogether, but making up 15 runs in four matches is going to be a big ask! The one glimmer of hope is that he's already played the Bot in our league twice, whereas I have it last game up, so you never know!

Anyway, making up for it in FC, as the second string keep alive our outside hopes of lifting the Three Day trophy. Hazzard_Hotrods batted pretty well under the cloud cover, to make 339 on the first day, Strong/Prof LHS Cash the pick of the bowlers with 4/64 (Bizarrely the only spinner playing in either team, on *THEIR* Dusty pitch?!?). In Reply, Resp/Sup Bat Cash again led the way with 154, with knocks of 128 from Wond/Qual Staveley 63 from Strong/Resp Patel and 50 by Strong/Feeb Mohammed taking us to 505/7 Dec. I had 24 overs at them tonight, Cash again making the breakthrough, to leave them 77/1, still 89 behind. I've flicked everyone up a level or two of aggression, in the hope of forcing a result.

Three pops last week, and another this.

I too have problems blasting out top-notch players...but who doesn't?! My top five bowlers are Sensational, Exceptional, Remarkable x2 and Quality...and sometimes they just can't get the star batsman out. That's bound to happen, and one of the reasons I'm doing better in FC than in OD is that, with that sort of balanced attack, there's no period where there are easy runs to be had.

I still wish I had the forethought to train up a monster, though!

Today's match is a pretty big one, 2nd (Inter Yerma) vs 3rd (Withington)...although it's pretty close to 1st vs 3rd.

Anyway, I was put in to bat and managed 266ao, having finished the first day at 263/8. They replied with 188ao, and I'm 44/3 at close. This could be an extremely tense draw, but each team needs the win -- if I lose, I'm out of the title race while, if I win, it turns into a 3-way battle with Yerma at a disadvantage. Bear in mind that I thrashed the current leader by over an innings (IIRC) earlier in the season.

Think a lead of 220 will be safe. Whether I manage the the required 100 runs tomorrow is a different matter!

Oh yeah, training. Gibb up to Exceptional conc, to match his bowling. At the age of 22, tempted as I am to take him up to Sensational, I think that's about it -- I need to get a batting trainee on the go.

Anyone got a good one they'd like to sell me on the cheap? ;)

Birchwood CC: 119 (61.3) Woods 7/35
The Heath CC: 363/0 (55) Caldwell 187*, Bartlett 162*
Birchwood CC: 209 (74.2) Woods 7/47

Bartlett and Caldwell managed to see us through to our declaration target this morning, adding 52 runs in 7 overs and staying unbeaten, thus boosting their own personal averages. On a sunny day, wickets were harder to take, and Woods only managed one wicket in his opening spell, before coming back to destroy the middle order and tail with figures of 7/47, which gave him match figures of 14/82.

The extra day's rest could prove key as we prepare for our big game on Friday. All of the top players will be playing, with the team on a GFI, and there's a chance that new signing Rob Lucas might be fit enough to make his debut.

Dynamo Morpork won by an innings and 255 runs

Another 22 points in the bag. The Bosstones seem to be doing similar stuff against Blue Hoops despite another Keigher double hundred, so I need to not give up more than 8 points in the match against them net week - which a draw while not getting bowled out should accomplish. Ordering a flat track aws.
