Slowly coming to the realisation that I'm in the wrong profession. We're in the process of suing the Education Authority where we live, over their failure to provide a suitable school place for our autistic daughter, and our brief is burning a nuclear powered hole in my pocket, to the tune of £175 an hour! And because some dumbass decided to get married - Don't look at me! - Turns out we're no longer entitled to legal Aid. I did consider offering Greening and Bewers in lieu of payment, but she doesn't strike me as the kind'a bird who'd be into Battrick - Perhaps if there was a gymkhana version where you could buy a Resp yearling and train them up to a Sup Filly for three day eventing?
But as much as I resent lining lawyers' pockets, it's the Local Authority's attitude and priorities which really get up my nose! Flat for a pregnant teenage slag? - Sure thing! Take a shoplifter quad-biking? - No worries! Provide an autistic ten year old with the education she sorely needs and deserves? - Um…We'll get back to you!
And lastly, before I turn briefly to matters BT, Builders! In what other job could you get paid thousands of pounds for doing a quarter of a job now and the rest in three or four months' time when you can be arsed! I mean, can you imagine if you caught a cab and it dropped you at the bottom of the street, then told you he'd send a lad around to take you the rest of the way when things were a bit quieter? Or if you were told that there's good news and bad news? - "The good news is that we've got a replacement kidney for you, but the bad news", (sucks air in through his broken teeth and tucks another roll-up behind a nicotine-stained ear) - "I'm not going to get around to you until the medical suppliers have a new consignment of dressings? - But don't worry, I'll send a lad around to rip the old one out, and we'll hang a tarp over the wound to keep the rain out!"
As you may have gathered, I'm not in a particularly good mood, but that's the rant over now, I promise. Anyway, in the altogether sunnier world of BT it's been a satisfactory but uneventful few days. Played my worst possible team against my mate's newbie on Sunday, and still ended up winning by 85 runs. Comp Creasy probably secured his immediate future with a run-a-ball seventy-odd, but the real star in The Gurs' 289/3 was Bewers - The Batsman!! The Feeb/Feeb batter was relieved of his bowling duties, and picked as a specialist opening bat, and man did he take his opportunity?! 74 from 130 deliveries, in an opening stand of 160-odd! Does anyone know if that's a record score for a Feeb batsman? His previous best was 28*!
Training was boring but necessary, the only one to pop at Fat-camp was Patel, who's heroic effort to get fit continues, now progressing from Woe Stam to Comp in a season. But, (and not just because I'm in an evil and sadistic mood), he's not been allowed to graduate from Fat-Camp, as his bar has now been raised to Resp. I just figured that in FC we'll need a slightly different batting strategy. Whereas in OD the tendency is to shove your best players up the top of the order, in FC I figured that we'll get the best return from the innings with the stars at No3 and 4, with a couple of high Stam work-horses opening. So Profs Patel and Bennett have been nominated for Fat-Camp Extra! And will not be allowed out on their summer hols until they've reached Resp Stam. Firstly this will increase the potential number of partnerships involving one or other of Greening and Staveley, and secondly, it'll leave those two comparatively fresher to open in OD matches.
Haven't pulled an YP, but next Sat I'll have 37 again, so I'll get one then. I'm not bothering saving up my ITS, as if I get three Med/Med all-rounders I'm not going to bother training them in any case, so the available training time isn't really an issue. Plus looking at the Yps other people are pulling, they're definitely getting more generous as the season goes on, so I'm going to blow the ITS now, when I've got a tiny chance of pulling a worthwhile player, as opposed to using them next season, when I've got more chance of having my drive block-paved!
Anyone up for a friendly this weekend, with the proviso that you'll have to be quick, as I'm not in the office again this week after seven this evening. Ideally I'd like a match against someone quite evenly matched with me, thinking perhaps Andy, either of the Robs, Dave or, dare I say, a tilt at Dynamo Mopork? Although, after GFIing on Friday, I'm going to have pretty useless team fitness and my ratings will probably take a beating as a consequence. But challenges in to all of you anyway, so first come first served.
